  2. 2. Paragraph A paragraph is a group of several sentences that have one principal idea clearly developed through the entire paragraph.
  3. 3. Parts of a paragraph Every paragraph has two important parts 1. The first sentence. This sentence declares what is the main idea 2. The other sentences. Those sentences support the principal idea (The first sentence)
  4. 4. What is the purpose of a paragraph? The main purpose of a paragraph is supporting information and organizing ideas in a way that everyone can understand what the author wanted to express. Commonly it is a part of a longer composition whether if it is an essay, composition, etc. There are several paragraphs in an essay, at least three or four.
  5. 5. A good paragraph has: 1. Unity. It must have one main idea which contains a topic sentence as well as other sentences to support the topic one. 2. Support. Evidence, examples and details are the fundamental parts that give a paragraph support and credibility. 3. Coherence. It has a clear connection between every sentence using linkings or connector. Perhaps, it has to manage the organization of details as spatial, chronological, importance and logical. 4. Good language. For a paragraph to be good it has to have correct punctuation, grammatical accuracy, apt vocabulary and a variety of structures.
  6. 6. Types of paragraphs There are eleven types of paragraphs 1. Chronological 2. Enumeration 3. Descriptive 4. Explicative 5. Expository 6. Argumentative
  7. 7. Chronological paragraph This kind of paragraph shows the order in which a series of events occurred
  8. 8. Enumeration paragraph This type of paragraph contains a number of features that correspond to the same situation, person or object and a phrase that organizes everything allowing the reader to understand how the events were ordered.
  9. 9. Descriptive paragraph Descriptive paragraph has the main purpose of describing a situation, place, object or person with details and a logical order.
  10. 10. Explicative paragraph It seeks to expand the information given by examples or researches.
  11. 11. Expository paragraph An expository paragraph has the purpose of informing the reader about the topic that is going to be developed
  12. 12. Argumentative paragraph It aims to persuade or convince the reader about the position that is given of the composition, whether is a denial or affirmation.
  13. 13. Narrative paragraph A narrative paragraph counts how events occurred in an specific moment of time.
  14. 14. Comparative paragraph Comparative paragraphs show the differences or similarities between two objects, opinions, places, people, etc.
  15. 15. Cause & effect paragraph Seeks to show a fact that already happened and why or something that happened and the consequences it would bring.
  16. 16. Deductive paragraph It allows the reader to understand that there is a main idea at the beginning that will be developed through the composition starting with a generalization.
  17. 17. Inductive paragraph It allows the reader to understand that there is a main idea at the end that will be developed at the beginning the composition starting with a generalization.
