The Story, part 5: God Moves In

  1. 1. The Story God Moves "In"
  2. 2. The Ten Commandments Exodus 20:1 And God spoke all these words: 2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
  3. 3. The Ten Commandments 3 "You shall have no other gods before me.
  4. 4. The Ten Commandments 4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.
  5. 5. The Ten Commandments 5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a thousand [generations] of those who love me and keep my commandments.
  6. 6. The Ten Commandments 7 "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
  7. 7. The Ten Commandments 8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
  8. 8. The Ten Commandments 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates.
  9. 9. The Ten Commandments 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore, the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
  10. 10. The Ten Commandments 12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.
  11. 11. The Ten Commandments 13 "You shall not murder.
  12. 12. The Ten Commandments 14 "You shall not commit adultery.
  13. 13. The Ten Commandments 15 "You shall not steal.
  14. 14. The Ten Commandments 16 "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
  15. 15. The Ten Commandments 17 "You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."
  16. 16. The Golden Calf Exodus 32:1 When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, "Come, make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don't know what has happened to him."
  17. 17. The Golden Calf 4 They said, "These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt."
  18. 18. The Golden Calf 7 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt, have become corrupt.
  19. 19. The Golden Calf 8 They have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. They have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and have said, 'These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.' 9 "I have seen these people," the LORD said to Moses, "and they are a stiff-necked people.
  20. 20. The Golden Calf 21 He (Moses) said to Aaron, "What did these people do to you, that you led them into such great sin?" 22 "Do not be angry, my lord," Aaron answered. "You know how prone these people are to evil.
  21. 21. The Golden Calf Exodus 32:10 (God) "Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them. Then I will make you (Moses) into a great nation."
  22. 22. The Golden Calf Exodus 32:30 The next day Moses said to the people, "You have committed a great sin. But now I will go up to the LORD; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin."… 33 The LORD replied to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against me I will blot out of my book.
  23. 23. The Tabernacle - God wants to dwell with us Exodus 25:8 "Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them. 9 Make this tabernacle and all its furnishings exactly like the pattern I will show you."
  24. 24. The Tabernacle - God wants to dwell with us Exodus 40:34 …the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.
  25. 25. Leviticus: "Be holy as I am holy." Leviticus 19:2 Speak to the entire assembly of Israel… say to them: 'Be holy because I, the LORD your God am holy.
  26. 26. The Sacrificial System - Atonement; Covering of Sin Leviticus 16:21 He (the priest) is to lay both hands on the head of the live goat and confess over it all the wickedness and rebellion of the Israelites--all their sins--and put them on the goat's head. He shall send the goat away into the desert in the care of a man appointed for the task. 22 The goat will carry on itself all their sins to a solitary place; and the man shall release it in the desert.
