Once upon a time, there lived a shy flamingonamed Fred. Fred had a secret, that no one knewabout him. He was tired of eating shrimp, flyingaround and just being the average flamingo. Fredwanted to race a go-kart. He had seen his brother andsister race, and when he asked to try it, they wouldjust laugh.
His brother, Bob, would say,“You’re too young and stupid to race, you would not know which pedal is gas and which one is break.”His sister, Pinkie, would say,“You barely like going outside, so why would we let you ride go-karts.” This made Fred sad so, every night for a week he would go and use his dads old go-kart on the racing track, he loved to feel of the wind blowing through his feathers. The next day Fred saw a poster that read....
“ALL YOU FLAMINGO’S OUT THERE,WHO LOVE TO GO-KART RACE,COME DOWN TO THE LOCALRACING TRACK FOR A RACE.THE RACE WILL BE ON SATURDAY.BE AT THE TRACK AT 1:00PM SHARP.BRING YOUR OWN GO-KART.Fred read on-THE GRAND PRIZE WILL BE $100.00!”
Fred was so excited! But he could not tell anyone he wascompeting in the race, so he decided to wear a disguise for the race. At his house he looked in the attic, and found apink afro,“This will be perfect,” he said as he looked in the mirror,“No one will ever know its me.”
The day of the race Fred had butterfliesin his stomach. As he was bringing his go-kart to the starting line he saw his brotherand sister also at the line, he started to worry. But as he eased himself into the go-kart, hefelt relaxed. He noticed that there were 13other racers, 14 counting him.
“START YOUR ENGINES,” a voice boomed. Fred pulled the string that started theengine. “ON YOUR MARK, GET SET,GO!”
Fred pushed the gas, and zoomed of. He had alreadypassed 10 cars, and they were yards behind him. Infront of him were his brother and sister (who hadagreed to split the prize), Billy (a school bully), andCarla (this loud and annoying girl). He had passedCarla, and once Carla was well behind him, heworked on Billy, weaving past him in seconds.
He was now nearing the finish line, the wind blewhard, the wind blew fast. Fred had already passedhis brother, and the finish line was getting closer,He passed his sister, but right as he crossed thefinish line his wig blew off. It was too late to grabit. His brother and sister had already saw that it washim.
Fred braced himself for what they were about to say, but to his surprise, Pinkie said, “OMG! Where did you learn to race like that Fred?” Fred replied, “I....... I um practiced.” “Well you should have told us you can race like that,” said Bob, Fred smiled.
