• ### Algebraic expressions

1. 1. SIMPLIFYING ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSIONS By Grace and Annalise
2. 2. HOW TO SIMPLIFY...Simplifying an algebraic expression is when you combine allthe like terms in an expression, so when you find out what thevariable is, you can easily plug in the number, and solve theproblem easily.
3. 3. COMBINING LIKE TERMSFirst, you combine like terms. What are like terms? Liketerms are variables that are the same.Example: You can combine 3x and 5x because they have thesame variable, which is x.
4. 4. PROBLEM #18 + 15y + 12 - 4y
5. 5. LET’S SIMPLIFY! Start with combining like terms. What are the like terms?8 and 12 are like terms, because they don’t have a variable.8 + 12 = 20Next, you can combine 15y and -4y. -4y is a negative number,because subtracting 4 is the same as adding -4.15y + (-4y) = 11y
6. 6. SIMPLIFIED ANSWER 20 + 11y
7. 7. PROBLEM #256x - 13r + 23x + 85 + 67r - 34x
8. 8. HOW TO SIMPLIFY... 56x + 23x - 34x = 45x -13r + 67r = 54r
9. 9. SIMPLIFIED ANSWER 45x + 54r + 85
10. 10. Thanks for watching!
