  1. 1. Introduction: I have compiled this set of formats to help my N and O level students prepare for their respective national examinations. I hope that they will find these formats helpful when they are revising for the English Language Paper One (old syllabus). Together with the practices that they have done in class; It is my hope that they will make use of these formats as an effective tool for revision and as a means of giving them confidence in attempting Paper One answers. 1. Situational Writing Formats a.Informal Letter (Friendly Letter) Format Sender’s name & address Proper spelling Date Salutation Content of letter Closing Signing off Other options: Your friend, With love etc Name of sender below the signature Note: There is no need to include a title for an informal letter.

  3. 3. 2 c. Report Format To:(the name of the person the report is sent to) From:(the person writing the report) Date: (the date when the report was written) Title of Heading (Not indented but must be underlined) Body of the report (No signature line required)

Brochure/Leaflet Underlined title: Introduction to the problem: - Or a brief history of the company - Note: see the context provided to you in the Situational Writing Section of the paper). Body: - Provide various solutions to the problem stated or - List of goods and services that the company can provide Name of the Organization - (i.e. the organization that is solving the problem) or business - Business address (if provided in the context) - Contact number - Website (if given or if student asked to come up with one) End of Format
