Vietnamese manufacturer successfully re-launches the company thanks to goal-oriented strategies.

Within just one year, the owner of the company Ha Linh succeeded in putting
production back into operation, hereby securing a large number of jobs.
For many years, Ha Linh has been manufacturing decoration objects made of bamboo and
rattan for the European and American markets via a local agent. In many cases, the prod-
ucts were manufactured according to the customers’ requirements. Direct export was not
allowed. In 2008, something happened which is usually the case during a global economic
crisis: The amount of orders drastically declined and the prices became so low that it was
no longer possible to manufacture in a cost-covering manner. Therefore, the decision was
made to terminate the exclusive contract with the agent in order to make a fresh start and
approach the European market directly.
During the SIPPO evaluation trip to Vietnam in autumn 2009, the owner of Ha Linh ex-
pressed his desire to participate in the next «Ambiente» trade fair in Frankfurt. We discussed
the current situation, reviewed the strategy presented by Mr Dang Cong Thang, and then
finally made a start on the preparatory work to ensure a successful participation at the trade
fair. After inspecting the company and analysing the existing range of products, the manu-
facturer was ensured a place within the SIPPO programme.
Today, eight months after the international trade fair «Ambiente», the company is now mak-
ing products for a variety of new customers. Whilst visiting the company in September
2010, the SIPPO team was able to examine the deliveries which were ready to be sent off to
Europe and Latin America. At present, the production is working at 70 % capacity.
On one hand, Mr Dang Cong Thang certainly owes this success to his participation in the
SIPPO programme; on the other hand, his tremendous commitment and efforts to acquire
new orders and directly contact European customers also played an important role.
