  1. 1. A short overview The Research Data Alliance (RDA) Fotis E. Psomopoulos Institute of Applied Biosciences (INAB) Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH)
  2. 2. Research Data Alliance (RDA) Vision Researchers and innovators openly share data across technologies, disciplines, and countries to address the grand challenges of society. Mission RDA builds the social and technical bridges that enable open sharing of data. 2rd-alliance.org @resdatall / @fopsom06/05/2020
  3. 3. What is RDA? RDA is an international member based organization focused on the development of infrastructure and community activities that reduce barriers to data sharing and exchange, and the acceleration of data driven innovation worldwide. With more than 8,600 members globally representing 137 countries, RDA includes researchers, scientists and data science professionals working in multiple disciplines, domains and thematic fields and from different types of organizations across the globe. 06/05/2020 rd-alliance.org @resdatall / @fopsom 3 RDA is building the social and technical bridges that enable open sharing of data to achieve its vision of researchers and innovators openly sharing data across technologies, disciplines, and countries to address the grand challenges of society

  7. 7. RDA and the Biomedical Sciences Notable highlights • the FAIRSharing WG has attempted to answer the question of linking data, repositories, standards and policies in the biomedical, life and environmental sciences. • the ELIXIR Bridging Force IG aims to be a bridge between ELIXIR, the European life science infrastructure programme, and relevant RDA groups. • the RDA-EU Ambassadors o Julien Barde - RDA EU Ambassador for Marine Sciences / Fisheries o Anne Cambon-Thomsen - RDA EU Ambassador health sciences and for research ethics o Caterina Caracciolo - RDA EU Ambassador for Agricultural Sciences o Fotis Psomopoulos - RDA EU Ambassador for Bioinformatics 06/05/2020 rd-alliance.org @resdatall / @fopsom 7
  8. 8. RDA-COVID19 Working Group Aims 1. To define detailed practical guidelines on data sharing under the present COVID-19 circumstances to help stakeholders follow best practices to maximize the efficiency and impact of their work. 2. To develop guidelines for policymakers to maximize timely data sharing and appropriate responses in such health emergencies 06/05/2020 rd-alliance.org @resdatall / @fopsom 8 Expected Outcomes / Deliverables 1. Best practice guidelines per sub-group and overall 2. Recommendations for researchers and policymakers to help maximize data sharing 3. Catalogue of key resources to inform guidelines (e.g. key datasets, standards, tools, repositories etc) 4. A decision tree tool to facilitate navigation to specific resources by different stakeholders https://www.rd-alliance.org/groups/rda-covid19
