  2. 2. Earthquakes <ul><li>A series of vibrations included in the earth’s crust by the abrupt rupture and rebound of rocks in which elastic strain has been slowly accumulating. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Why in California? <ul><li>Most earthquakes occur in Alaska and California. </li></ul><ul><li>Scientists believe this is because a great deal of movement and activity in the earths crust in these zones near the Pacific Ocean . </li></ul>
  4. 4. Historical Information <ul><li>California’s earliest earthquake was felt in 1769. </li></ul><ul><li>During the World Series in 1989, an earthquake occurred and was captured live in California. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Famous Locations <ul><li>California’s largest earthquake was in Tejon and was rated a 7.9. </li></ul><ul><li>San Francisco and Imperial Valley, California were both rated a 7.8 and are the seventeenth and eighteenth largest earthquake’s in the world. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Interesting Facts <ul><li>Every year southern California has approximately 10,000 earthquakes. </li></ul>
