Patrick Star Show: King Neptune's Ball (Revisionist) #1
Â
Travis Scott Cross-Media Case Study
2. LIFE
⢠AT 25 YEARS OLD THE HIP HOP AND R&B/RAPPER ARTIST AND SONGWRITER HAS ALREADY
WORKED WITH SOME OF THE BIGGEST NAMES. OFTEN ASSOCIATED WITH THE WEEKEND,
KANYE WEST AND 2 CHAINS FOR EXAMPLE. AFTER SIGNING HIS FIRST MAJOR RECORD DEAL IN
2012 HE THEN LATER THAT YEAR SIGNED A DEAL WITH KANYE WESTS RECORD COMPANY â VERY
GOOD BEATSâ. IN 2013 HIS FIRST ALBUM, OWL PHARAOH, WAS RELEASED WHICH WAS THEN
FOLLOWED BY HIS SECOND COMPLETED ALBUM, RODEO, IN SEPTEMBER 2015. HIS MOST
SUCCESSFUL AND MOST RECENT ALBUM BIRDS IN THE TRAP SING MCKNIGHT WAS RELEASED IN
SEPTEMBER 2016 WITH LOTS OF POSITIVE REVIEWS. HIS INSTRUMENTALABILITIES INCLUDE
VOCALS, THE KEYBOARD AND DRUM.
3. HITTING THE BIG TIME
⢠BIRDS IN THE TRAP SING MCKNIGHT IS SEEN AS TRAVIS SCOTTâS BEST PIECE OF WORK SO FAR
IN HIS RELATIVELY YOUNG CAREER. BECAUSE OF ITS HUGE SUCCESS IN AMERICAAND IN THE
UK HE HAS BEEN NOMINATED AND PUT FORWARD FOR MANY AWARDS. FIRSTLY NOMINATED FOR
A GRAMMY IN HIS FEATURED SONG IN JUSTIN BIEBERâS ALBUM âPURPOSEâ (2017). OTHERS
INCLUDE BEING NOMINATED FOR MTVâS âBEST ARTIST ON THE RISEâ - IN 2015 AND ALSO MOBO
âBEST INTERNATIONALACTâ IN 2016.
5. Easy way to access
information on his next live
performances and tours.
This logo would have been
used to create instant
reference to his last album,
Birds in the trap.
This logo creates instant
reference to his public image.
This is is a logo of himself he
often uses on social media.
A shop is so important because
production companies will look
to this to make lots of money
from fans.
Scottâs latest work and
songs will feature in this
element so this is why
its very important.Misty dark colour tones reflect
the themes mentioned in his
music
No image of Scottâs face shows
his physical image isnât vital for
his marketing and
advertisement online
8. These 3 album covers are Travis Scottâs 3 most popular / well
known pieces of work. In
them itâs clear Scott and his team try to make him fully visible
and on show the majority of the time.
I believe this is because he is yet to release many music videos,
with around 5 at the moment to the number of songs heâs
released, 60+ approx.
These albums do follow modern conventions of album covers
from this genre of music though. Being present in the picture
while also being slightly shaded away from the main spotlight is
a common theme to see.

9. MUSIC VIDEO â BUTTERFLY EFFECTHTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=_EYZUTDAH0U
The image (right) is the official cover image for this single
which shows the artist in a Lamborghini, which is also
present in the music video.
The Video â shows Scott on the roads in his car
demonstrating his âblingâ, power and fame. With the
underlying message being to be aware of your actions
(Butterfly Effect).
11. VIDEO ARTWORK
In this music video in particular Scottâs face
appears a lot. This tells me his face is a method
of marketing and that itâs quite a vital way to
showcase his work. This close up is one of
many examples from the video.
Other elements to the music video are the uses of colour, the fact itâs fast paced,
jumpy, colourful and also eventful to keep the viewer watching. The majority of the time because of the very fast
paced cuts used in the video. A shot is either cut extremely short for almost a second or either shown for the full
length with special effects such as multiple colour changing to keep the spectator entertained.
12. The colour pallet is very intense and wild.
It gives the video a slightly retro and cool
feel to it â possibly relating to the period
and fashion of when he was born and grew
up.
The special effects used in the video also
show an experimental side to the work.
One, being the old fashioned camera feel
to it at the beginning. Being almost blurred
and dark, then later on in the video
becoming more focused and detailed.
13. GOODWIN THEORY
Lots of close-ups
of main
singer/performer.
The edits and
shots relate to
the beat,
running time
and feel to the
song.
Singer is the main protagonist â engage with
audience / fans.
Similar colour scheme
throughout to help
create and maintain a
visual effects.
Song relating to visuals and
performers. Butterflies seen
throughout.
14. CROSS-MEDIA CONCLUSION
The light, wild, and overall colourful feel to the music video
is consistent throughout social media and the other platforms
for Travis Scottâs marketing.
Also the subject and themes of the songs/albums are portrayed
through both the music video and the website, again showing
consistency. For example there being a butterfly theme
throughout the âButterfly Effectâ music video. Secondly a bird
logo being present on both the website and throughout many
items of the merchandise. This is due to his recent most popular
album âBirds in the Trapâ.
