1. Deforestation is the cutting down of trees to get land for
different purposes such as agriculture,urbanization,dam
construction etc.
The most concentrated deforestation occurs in tropical
rainforests.
Deforestation is more extreme in tropical and sub-tropical
forests in emerging economies.
More than half of all plant and land animal species in the
world live in tropical forests.
The UNITED NATIONS FOOD AND AGRICULTURE
ORGANIZATION (FAO) estimates that the annual rate of
deforestation is about 1.3 million square kilometer per
decade.

3. There are many causes of deforestation. some are as under:
To get land for agriculture.
To get land for new roads and new towns.
To construct hydroelectric dams.
To get wood for commercial purposes like for furniture,
buildings, paper etc.
For mining to get oil, coal and gas.
Forest fires are also a cause of destructions of forests.
Wood is the main source of fuel in rural areas.
Illegal cutting of trees for money.

5. Biodiversity is badly affected by deforestation. Some
examples are as under:
Deforestation is responsible for a dry climate in an area due
to decrease of water in the soil and in atmosphere.
It is responsible for the decline of many species.
It is also a cause of global warming.
It is responsible for soil erosion.
Due to deforestation there is decrease of oxygen in the air.
Due to deforestation the soil of an area reaches to river with
rain. Due to this reason the passage of river is blocked
which results in the form of flood. This flood badly affects
the biodiversity.
Deforestation results in reduced rain.

7. Due to deforestation the shelters of animals are
reducing and they are exposing more for hunting.
This results in the endangered status or even
extinction of many species.
