Discussion: TDR Case studies (Global Health)
a) Is it possible or feasible to extrapolate the results of TDR in one geographical region to
another similar region? Explain why "Yes" or "No"
The greatest value of a transdisciplinary research approach is its applicability to solve public
health challenged problems threatening the communities. Based on this, I think that “yes”, it is
possible or feasible to extrapolate the results of TDR in one geographical region to another
similar region, because public health problems lies in the circumstances that form it and in terms
of which it can be fully understood and evaluated. This process introduces the absolute
paradigm through which TDR addresses public health problems to obtain results towards a
solution (Most of all TDR tends to resolve wicked problems that is community wide and
similar). However, TDR approaches are more experimental, and focuses more on context that
are fixed in realities, thereby addressing population concerns in a profound and practicable
manner (Haire-Joshu & McBride, 2013). According to Shepherd et al. (2014), who sought to
identify and examine estimates of dengue disease burden and costs. The authors explained that
short-term recommendations that include merging multiple data sources, such as cohort and
surveillance data and a long-term effort that include effective reporting of seroprevalence and
economic data would help to improve estimates of dengue incidence and support public health
policy makers towards making informed decisions for dengue prevention and control locally and
globally(p.2).
b) Should the US Federal Government invest in Global Health issues?
Explain why.
I believe the US should invest in global health because it is a part essential part of U.S. showing
diplomacy in an effort to help improve the health of people in low- and middle-income in
countries. It serves as a national security that supports actions that helps towards the prevention
and control of some range of global health challenges that are threat to the US within and outside
the country( troops and citizens working abroad), such as HIV, malaria, family planning and
reproductive health, and maternal and child health. On the other hand, it promote lesser
economic spending bondage that leveraged the US due to the impacts of funding supports to help
2. address the problem in many of the affected countries e.g. through global health research led by
US institutions, development of polio vaccine have caused the near-eradication of polio, saved
lives and money(Research America, 2019).
