Wolfram Horstmann presents LIBER

Workshop title: Organising high-quality research data management services

Workshop abstract:
Open science needs high-quality data management where researchers can create, use and share data according to well-defined standards and practices. this is one of the pillars of Open Science. In the data management landscape, we find quite a few organisations that aim at achieving this, however, to get it right, a collaboration is called for where all can play a suitable role and present this in a consistent way to the researcher.
The proposed workshop brings together representatives of standard organisation (RDA), eInfrastructures (EUDAT) and Libraries (LIBER) that together can organise the high-quality data management for research.

  25. 25. Long Tail of Research Data Interest Group
  26. 26. Addressing the Gaps: 7 Recommendations for Supporting the Long Tail of Research Data 1. Recognize and understand the diversity of data created at your organization, or through your funding support, and develop appropriate frameworks for managing those data. 2. Scale existing funding mechanisms to support research data management for small research projects 3. Expand and strengthen the institutional role in managing research data. 4. Develop and apply common standards across institutions and domains to ensure greater interoperability across datasets. 5. Support reproducibility and transparency of research by linking data, software, and literature. 6. Establish governance structures that reflect the diverse dimensions of research data. 7. Develop coherent principles and policies for the collection and preservation of long tail data.

  29. 29. Take home message a) Libraries and local IT centres provide the „last mile“ for research data services b) Libraries provide insight to requirements „on the ground“ for standardization and policies c) Libraries are experienced in building global systems as team players among themselves and with other stakeholders >> Libraries should play a major role in local, national and global developments for research data
