Mission
Ensure the creation and sustained development of
national integrated information ecosystem (PTCRIS) to
support research management
25-Set-14 5
Goals
1. Define the regulatory framework to adopt the various
systems
2. Coordinate FCT’s systems integration in accordance
with the regulatory framework
3. Coordinate external systems integration with FCT
(National and International) according to the legal
framework
4. Support and disclose in community the use of the
systems of the PT-CRIS.

Story #2
FCT’s Research Unit’s
evaluation (bibliometric study)
25-Set-14 14
Background
• FCT organizes regular reviews of national R&D
institutions (defines amount to be paid to institutions
in the next 5 / 6 years)
• Bibliometric analysis to support review exercise
• ORCID was one of the tools chosen for this exercise
25-Set-14 15
The process
• Production of documentation (FAQs and instructions)
• National helpdesk number and e-mail (available for
units responsible only)
• Three stages
– ORCID registration and unit association
– ORCID articles (Scopus to ORCID Wizard)
– Verification and corrections
25-Set-14 16
Results
• > 90%
• 14000 out of 15000 Researchers
• 90% of indexed scientific output was registered (last
five years)
25-Set-14 18
Work in progress
• Interoperability model
• “ORCIDification” of national systems
– Grant management
– National CV platform
– OA platforms (DSpace, OJS, Portal)
• Uberwizard agreement (to import grants to ORCID)
• CERIF “point of truth” database (ORCID compatible)
25-Set-14 19
Future work
• Involve HEI and Research labs in order to adopt ORCID
locally
• Develop reporting tool (to report scientific output) based
on ORCID
• Implement OA mechanisms and tools
• Develop research portal (VIVO based) - ORCID
compatible
• Continue to leverage ORCID in processes and systems
(ORCID assertions, ORCID and AAI)
• Do nothing … and benefit from other’s integrations
25-Set-14 20
Conclusions
• Perfect match between PTCRIS and ORCID adoption
for the Research Unit evaluation bibliometric study
• PIDs are great but make much more sense with
added value services (i.e.: integration)
• ORCID adoption requires an holistic action view
(stakeholders, communication, support, technical)
• Full adoption requires hard work but you are not alone
