The objective of the mitigation work programme is to
urgently scale up mitigation ambition and implementation
in this critical decade.

Eyes on the objective
• The main goal should guide the dialogues – how do they help us towards
the objective?
Choose a topic that takes us towards the objective
• Topics where there are real opportunities for scaling up mitigation action
and support.
Format that is fit for purpose
• Dialogues should be organized in a way that can both facilitate ambitious
outcomes in the UNFCCC-process and outcomes that lead to actual
implementation of climate policies “on the ground”
Key factors that can help ensure a focused exchange of views

Form and participation essential to focus
• Need to go beyond the regular “workshop” and
“negotiation”-mode in the dialouges
• Invite all relevant actors – businesses, organizations,
experts etc.
• How to share experiences? Could invite parties and non-
party stakeholders to share:
▪ What’s needed to get to the objective
▪ Success stories
▪ Challenges
▪ Make use of submissions!

To sum up
To have a focused exchange of views we need:

❖ Pick topics that takes us towards that objective
❖ Shape the dialogues in a format that is fit for purpose guided
by science and influenced by the active participation from all
relevant actors.
