Page 1 / 3 MINISTRY OF FINANCE Regulating in a Competitive Region for Sustained Growth Tuesday 25 March 2014, 15:30-19:00 Sawangan 1, Grand Nikko Hotel Bali, Indonesia Background The expert policy dialogue will bring together senior government officials, international and regional experts from relevant organisations. It will provide an opportunity to learn more about OECD work on regulatory reform, to have a dialogue between regulatory reform experts from Southeast Asia and OECD countries as well as to discuss future work of the OECD in Southeast Asia on regulatory reform. The dialogue is an initiative of the OECD Regulatory Policy Committee (RPC). The RPC seeks to promote an integrated, horizontal and multidisciplinary approach to regulatory quality and seek to ensure that the government as a whole promotes sound regulatory policy and practices. The RPC does this by examining what governments and regulatory agencies do and how they are seeking to improve regulatory reform through regular meetings, consultation with field experts, and collection of data and analysis. The RPC brings together senior regulatory policy officials from cabinet office/prime minister’s departments, ministries of economy or finance, ministries of public administration and other central government agency. The RPC works in close co-operation with the OECD Global Relations Secretariat, on regional work with Southeast Asia. The RPC also engages on a regular basis with organisations such as ASEAN and APEC on topics of mutual interest. The RPC has a long standing engagement in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific through APEC and ASEAN. This engagement has included the APEC-OECD Co-operative Initiative on Regulatory Reform and the 2005 APEC-OECD Integrated Checklist on Regulatory Reform, which five economies applied on a voluntary basis. The OECD has also conducted a Review of Administrative Simplification in Vietnam in 2010-11 and a Regulatory Reform Review of Indonesia in 2011-12. The OECD is currently supporting Malaysia in the implementation of its National Policy on the Development and Implementation of Regulations and Indonesia to develop guidelines on public consultation in regulatory decision making. Contact Mr. Faisal Naru, Senior Economic Advisor, Regulatory Policy Division (faisal.naru@oecd.org) and Mr. James Sheppard, Policy Analysis – Southeast Asia, Regulatory Policy Division (james.sheppard@oecd.org)
