  4. 4. What’s the current state of the Healthcare industry today? An increase in demands for healthcare needs has led to an increase in jobs. In March 2016 alone, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that employment rose by 37,000 in healthcare. Furthermore, “In the last 12 months, employment in the health industry had increased by 183,000, accounting for about 36 percent of the job gain in healthcare over the same period.” In March 2016: • Ambulatory healthcare services added 27,000 jobs • Hospitals added 10,000 jobs • Home health care services added 10,000 jobs http://www.bls.gov/web/empsit/ceshighlights.pdf
  5. 5. As healthcare organizations react to an increasing workforce and demand, providing the highest levels of care to patients and their families remains a top priority. Now is the time to recognize the committed men and women and show appreciation for the great work and loving care they provide.

National Hospital Week always falls on the week of Florence Nightingale’s Birthday (May 12). This recognition should include these four important tactics to be successful: Start the week with a message from leadership, then make sure leaders at all levels are around all week sharing the impact staff members make. AHA will promote the shared media during National Hospital Week. 1
