Chartering and Commercial Manager of Palmali Holding Company Limited (Palmali Group of Shipping Companies) Istanbul, Turkey, November 1999 - January 2007: November 1999 – June 2001: Ship Agency Department: - provided all types of agency services in all Turkish ports as well as during passage via Turkish straits (Bosphorus and Dardanelles); - arranging crew transfer/change, organizing delivery of technical spare parts, fuel/fresh water/provision supply, maintenance, certifications by class societies, surveys; - ensuring a berth at the ports for the incoming vessels; - facilitating paper work, drawing up the documents for the customs formalities, harbor services, immigration requirements and approvals on the arrival/departure of the ships in ports, both for the ship/crew and cargo; - arranging for the pilot and the tugs, if necessary; - conveying relevant instructions to and from the ship owner; - organizing the supply, transport and the handling of the goods. June 2001 – October 2005: Chartering Department (Post-fixture/Operations Divisions): - provided chartering and post fixture services to charterers, ship-owners and traders by using developed network of contacts, encompassing logistical and market analysis; - negotiated with brokers, ship owners, shippers and cargo receivers regarding both spot and long- term contracts of affreightment (charter party terms), liaising with brokers for available cargoes in the market, (looking for suitable cargoes and negotiating the best employment for the open vessels), aiming at achieving the best results for all parties involved; - prepared and circulated the daily open position list of the company fleet; - if necessary, negotiated and employed vessels from the market, for the purpose of covering the contracts; - making voyage calculations, contract management, budgeting and all other chartering related matters, such as: negotiated and prepared the charter party contracts leading to clean fixture; relayed voyage instructions on behalf of charterers to owners; followed up closely with owners and charterers as per to the terms and conditions of the charter party; followed up on the loading and discharging of vessels; preparing lay-time calculations sheets at both load and discharge ports to ascertain if any demurrage incurred; etc.; - marketed cargoes and contract vessels from the freight market, supported internal network of traders and/or brokers with freight rates, contract review, shipping information; - analyzed the final results of the contracts; - carried out market research and analysis, kept up with the news in the shipping sector, i.e. reported fixtures, important events and developments; - effectively managed internal and external customer relationships; - cargo and vessels movement analysis, commercial planning, explored new business opportunities.; - provided and supported the continuous education of the personnel; - regularly participated in meetings with charterers, ship owners, brokers, etc., took active part in various shipping conferences.
