Impact study criteria for selecting sensitive areas:
- Residential and institutional areas
- Areas located in a 300-metre radius of expressways and on-ramps

Noise Criteria
Definition of ambient noise
• Audible noise recorded prior to the project
• Measured over a 24-hour span (Leq 24 h)
• Used to establish the project's noise criteria
Noise criteria for the project
The average sound level over 24 h (Leq 24 h) generated by expressways
and on-ramps must not exceed:
• 55 dBA if the initial ambient noise was below 55 dBA
• An increase of 1 dBA if the initial ambient noise was between 55 and
59 dBA
• 60 dBA if the initial ambient noise was greater than or equal to
60 dBA

Noise Criteria
Project noise
• Noise modelled for 24-hour periods (Leq 24 h)
• Based on the following key data:
Average daily traffic in summer in 2050
Design of expressways and their on-ramps
Type of asphalt
Speed
Topography
Mitigation measures
• Must mitigate noise from expressways and on-ramps in 2050 for
compliance with noise criteria
• The goal is not to mitigate the noise from other sources (trains,
factories, provincial and municipal roads, etc.)
