By running ventures throughout the year, Nourish chapters earn money to conduct community development projects. Over the summer, students from Nourish chapters travel abroad to partner with local communities in implementing these solutions. Last year members traveled to Bolivia to build an orphanage. The first earthquake struck Haiti only, leaving around 200,000 dead and around 300,000 people are still trying to rebuild their lives in the poorest country in the Americas.A little more than a month after the earthquake in Haiti, a much stronger quake shook Chile. The quake was so strong that it not only shortened the day, but also changed the geographic locations of some cities in Chile and Argentina.A few days later an earthquake hit Turkey, and then on April 4 Mexico was hit by a 7.2-degree quake. The most recent earthquake occurred in Western China, leaving around 400 dead and 10,000 wounded. Not all the natural disasters this year have been earthquakes; this month Brazil experienced flooding that has left thousands homeless. While the disasters have passed, many countries are still in shambles. Around 1600 people have been arrested for looting in Chile since the earthquake and the World Bank has estimated that $11.5 billion will be needed in the next ten years to reconstruct Haiti. If you are interested in helping with the relief efforts in any of these disaster areas, you can find information at http://www.redcross.org/.“…1600 people have been arrested for looting in Chile since the earthquake and the World Bank has estimated that $11.5 billion will be needed in the next ten years to reconstruct Haiti”http://www.dailyhotnews.org/323/2010-the-year-of-natural-disasters/
