Suggestopedia - A Method Of Teaching

About Method
• Suggestopedia is a
teaching method
developed by the
Bulgarian
psychotherapist Georgi
Lozanov.
• It is used mostly to
learn foreign languages.
• Suggestopedia has been
called a “pseudo-
science.

• The theory applied positive suggestion in
teaching when it was developed in the 1970s.
• However, as the method improved, it has
focused more on “desuggestive learning” and
now is often called “desuggestopedia”.
• Suggestopedia is a portmanteau of the words
“suggestion” and “pedagogy”.
• A common misconception is to link
“suggestion” to “hypnosis”.
• However, Lozanov intended it in the sense of
offering or offering or proposing emphasisng
student choice.
Three Phases
1. Deciphering :- The teacher introduces the
grammar and lexis of the content.
• In most materials the foreign language text is
on the left half o the page with a translation
on the right half of the page with a translation
on the right half, i.e. meanings are conveyed
via the mother tongue not unlike the bilingual
method.

2. concert session ( active and passive ) :-
• In the active session, the teacher reads the
text at a normal speed, sometimes intoning
some words, and the students follow.
• In the passive session, the students relax and
listen to the teacher reading the text calmly.
• Baroque music is played in the background.

3. Elaboration :-
• The students finish off what they have learned
with dramas, songs, and games.
• Then it has developed into four phases as lots
of experience were done: introduction,
concert session, elaboration, and production.
Environment
Role of Teachers
• Teachers should not act in a direct way,
although this method is teacher-controlled
and not student-controlled.
• For example, they should act as a real partner
to the students, participating in the activities
such as games and songs “normally” and
“genuinely”.
Some Important Factors
• Covering a huge bulk of learning material.
• Structuring the material in the syggestopedic
way: global-partial- partial-global, and global
in the part-part in the global, related to the
golden proportion.
• As a professional, on one hand, and a
personality, on the other hand, the teacher
should be a highly regarded professional,
reliable and credible.

• The teacher should have, not play, a hundred
percent expectation of positive results.
• The teacher should love his/her students and
teach them with personal participation
through games, songs, classical arts, and
pleasure.
Advantages
• This method becomes useful and effective
because these type of environment students
likes. Environment becomes helpful.
• And useful in learning.
• It becomes easy way to learn for student.
• Different techniques used that’s why for
students to remembering a things becomes
easy.
• This method also includes students that’s why
student’s creativity also developed through
this techniques.
Disadvantages
• This method becomes easy for students but it
becomes difficult for teachers because for
them to find different techniques ,and to
prepare different task , it needs a lots of time.
• And it also depends on the student that’s why
dome student may take interest and some
may not take interest.
• In less student’s class this techniques becomes
useful but in large class it becomes more
difficult because it becomes difficult to gives
attention to everyone.
conclusion
• This method includes a lot of hard work of
teachers.
• This environment useful for learners.
• students are center in this method.

Suggestopedia- A Method Of Teaching

  • 1. Suggestopedia - A Method Of Teaching • Name :- Rathod Nikita P. • Roll No - 23 • Enrollment No :- 2069108420190038 • Semester :- M. A.   • 2. About Method • Suggestopedia is a teaching method developed by the Bulgarian psychotherapist Georgi Lozanov. • It is used mostly to learn foreign languages. • Suggestopedia has been called a “pseudo- science.
  • 3. Continue…. • The theory applied positive suggestion in teaching when it was developed in the 1970s. • However, as the method improved, it has focused more on “desuggestive learning” and now is often called “desuggestopedia”. • Suggestopedia is a portmanteau of the words “suggestion” and “pedagogy”. • A common misconception is to link “suggestion” to “hypnosis”. • However, Lozanov intended it in the sense of offering or offering or proposing emphasisng student choice.
  • 4. Three Phases 1. Deciphering :- The teacher introduces the grammar and lexis of the content. • In most materials the foreign language text is on the left half o the page with a translation on the right half of the page with a translation on the right half, i.e. meanings are conveyed via the mother tongue not unlike the bilingual method.
  • 5. Continue…. 2. concert session ( active and passive ) :- • In the active session, the teacher reads the text at a normal speed, sometimes intoning some words, and the students follow. • In the passive session, the students relax and listen to the teacher reading the text calmly. • Baroque music is played in the background.
  • 6. Continue…. 3. Elaboration :- • The students finish off what they have learned with dramas, songs, and games. • Then it has developed into four phases as lots of experience were done: introduction, concert session, elaboration, and production.
  • 8. Role of Teachers • Teachers should not act in a direct way, although this method is teacher-controlled and not student-controlled. • For example, they should act as a real partner to the students, participating in the activities such as games and songs “normally” and “genuinely”.
  • 9. Some Important Factors • Covering a huge bulk of learning material. • Structuring the material in the syggestopedic way: global-partial- partial-global, and global in the part-part in the global, related to the golden proportion. • As a professional, on one hand, and a personality, on the other hand, the teacher should be a highly regarded professional, reliable and credible.
  • 10. Continue…. • The teacher should have, not play, a hundred percent expectation of positive results. • The teacher should love his/her students and teach them with personal participation through games, songs, classical arts, and pleasure.
  • 11. Advantages • This method becomes useful and effective because these type of environment students likes. Environment becomes helpful. • And useful in learning. • It becomes easy way to learn for student. • Different techniques used that’s why for students to remembering a things becomes easy. • This method also includes students that’s why student’s creativity also developed through this techniques.

Disadvantages • This method becomes easy for students but it becomes difficult for teachers because for them to find different techniques ,and to prepare different task , it needs a lots of time. • And it also depends on the student that’s why dome student may take interest and some may not take interest. • In less student’s class this techniques becomes useful but in large class it becomes more difficult because it becomes difficult to gives attention to everyone.
  • 13. conclusion • This method includes a lot of hard work of teachers. • This environment useful for learners. • students are center in this method.
