Textual Analysis of Common People

  1. 1. Common People- Pulp Textual AnalysisThe song Common People is our chosen music for our coursework. We aim to recreate the style of editing, the use of camera andobviously sound that is used within the Pulp music video.Editing and mise en scene are large influences from this music videoas we aim to create our own original video but in the style of thecommon people video. Using post production editing we aim to createsurreal scenes and play with the viewers imaginations. Mise en sceneis an important part of this as we aim to have some sort of narrative inparts of the video, meaning the locations at certain points need tohave a correlation. However, are not essential in others. With post production editing we can create scenes that are virtuallyimpossible to create by use of camera and mise en scene. Forexample, we will look to have a live band playing the song “CommonPeople” within the music video. We aim to use post production editing to place the band into surrealsituations, for e.g. place them in the middle of a busy road, shrinkthem to a smaller size etc. This correlates with the Common Peoplemusic video as post production editing is a large part of the effects ofthe video and green screening to create surreal scenes is aninfluence from the Pulp video that we aim to use to create certainshots.
