  2. 2. BE WISE ABOUT THE WORD OF GOD Colossians 3:16 16 Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.
  3. 3. BE WISE ABOUT THE WORD OF GOD Matthew 4:4 “People do not live by bread alone, but by every work that comes from the mouth of God.”
  4. 4. BE WISE ABOUT THE WORD OF GOD FACT: If we are going to be spiritually healthy we must pay attention to our spiritual nutrition!
  5. 5. BE WISE ABOUT THE WORD OF GOD “Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives.”
  6. 6. BE WISE ABOUT THE WORD OF GOD I. APPRECIATE GOD’S WORD A. Because of its revelation. Colossians 1:25-26 (NLT) 25 God has given me the responsibility of serving his church by proclaiming his entire message to you. 26 This message was kept secret for centuries and generations past, but now it has been revealed to God’s people.
  7. 7. BE WISE ABOUT THE WORD OF GOD I. APPRECIATE GOD’S WORD B. Because of its message. Colossians 1:27 (NLT) 27 For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.

We will be perfected Colossians 1:28 (NLT) 28 So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ.

It will give us strength Colossians 2:6-7 (NLT) 6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

  17. 17. BE WISE ABOUT THE WORD OF GOD • How do we learn to evaluate our society? • How do we determine standards of morality? • How do we arrive at political conclusions and convictions?
  18. 18. BE WISE ABOUT THE WORD OF GOD Do we follow the latest fad? Do we follow the good looking charismatic speaker OR what God says in His Word?
  19. 19. BE WISE ABOUT THE WORD OF GOD I. APPRECIATE GOD’S WORD II. APPROACHING GOD’S WORD Colossians 2:8; 16-23 8 Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high- sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.

APPROACHING GOD’S WORD Colossians 2:8; 16-23 16 So don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. 17 For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come.   24. 24. BE WISE ABOUT THE WORD OF GOD I. APPRECIATE GOD’S WORD II. APPROACHING GOD’S WORD Colossians 2:8; 16-23 ... 23 These rules may seem wise because they require strong devotion, pious self-denial, and severe bodily discipline. But they provide no help in conquering a person’s evil desires.
