Review of the national education technology plan 2010 (1)

  1. 1.  The National Education technology Plan 2010 focus is to reform education with the use of everyday technologies by focusing on 5 essential components of learning with the use of technology. › The 5 components are  Learning  Assessment  Teaching  Infrastructure  Productivity
  2. 2.  Learning - Engage & Empower:  Teaching-Prepare & Connect: Revise create, and implement Provide educators with standards and learning opportunities to have access objectives using technology to technology-based content, that incorporate 21st century tools and resources and know skills in all content areas when and how to use them. Assessment- Measure What  Infrastructure-Access & Matters: Design, develop, and Enable: Provide students and implement assessments that teachers with the appropriate give students, educators, and technology-based tools to other s timely and actionable enable success. feedback about student  Productivity-Redesign & learning to improve it. Transform: Redesign processes and structures using technology in order to improve and transform learning outcomes.
  3. 3.  Education is a major  Two educational goals set component to America’s by President Obama economic growth, › Raise number of college prosperity, and ability to graduates holding a 2yr compete in the global or 4 yr degree from world. about 41% to 60% of the All learners must be population. provided with learning › Close the achievement experiences that engage gap, where all students and empower! graduate from high Schools must be vessels for school ready to exploration & innovation succeed in college and Educators must be careers. collaborators, knowledge and skill seekers.
  4. 4.  Advanced technology  Strategies for Change used in our daily lives › Adopt standards and should be used assessments that throughout the entire prepare students for educational system and success in college, in student learning workplace, and competition in the Changes must take global economy. place immediately and › Build data systems that allow for corrections and measure student growth adjustments as we move and success. forward in educational › Recruit, reward, reform develop, and retain effective educator. › Turn around low achieving schools.
  5. 5.  To prepare our students, we must bring 21st century technology into the classroom that makes learning meaningful, engaging, motivating, and inspiring for all. Students need adaptive learning skills that combine content knowledge with the ability to learn new things.
  6. 6.  It provides an engaging  Allows students to take environment and tools ownership of their for understanding learning, make choices. Provides access to wide  It can inspire imagination and flexible resources for and intellectual curiosity learning. Engaging and  It can expand and effective learning support various experiences can be strategies for learners by: individualized or › Providing scaffolds to differentiated. guide learners › Provide tools for communication beyond written and spoken language › Foster online communities
  7. 7.  Gives learners direct access to  Should support student learning 24/7. interaction with STEM Can help us design and provide more effective content in ways that learning experiences for all promote a deeper learners. This requires a understanding of complex combination of principles from Universal Design for Learning ideas, engage students in (UDL) and personalized solving complex problems, learning. and create new These principles include: opportunities for STEM › Flexible and multiple methods of instruction. learning throughout the › Multiple and flexible means educational system. of expression with alternatives. › Multiple and flexible means of engagement to tap diverse learners.
  8. 8.  Assessments should be done to assess how students think during learning. Data received from assessments should be used to modify conditions and support continuous improvement and innovation. Technology should be used to design, develop, and validate new assessment materials and processes.
  9. 9.  Through virtual environments,  Allows for the development of we can assess how well assessments using UDL more students communicate. accessible, effective, and valid Simple response devices can for students with special needs. be used in the classroom to immediately assess what  Present & assess using students have learned in class alternative representations, i.e. and provides a higher level of assistive technologies. engagement and improved student learning.  Speeds up development and Online assessments assist in testing of new assessments. collecting detailed  Reduces testing for information about how accountability. students learn.  The use of electronic learning Assessments diagnose how records can show student to provide the best support progress. for individual learners.  Can be used to support educators efforts to improve learning outcomes and productivity
  10. 10.  Technology should allow educators to prepare students for the real world. With the use of technology, educators can work together to support their own learning and improve student learning. Connected teaching provides various opportunities to personalize learning, i.e. blended learning
  11. 11.  Allows educators to break from traditional methods and collaborate with peers. Connected teaching makes it possible to reach specialized and exceptional educators through online learning activities. Professional development with the use of technology can increase digital literacy and help educators create assignments that improve learning, assessment, and instruction. Educators who are skilled in instructional design can provide online and blended learning experiences that are more personalized to students needs.
  12. 12.  Comprehensive infrastructure for learning is necessary to move beyond the traditional model to a learning model that brings together teams and students. Infrastructure is necessary to support a learning society where learning is lifelong and lifewide.
  13. 13.  Access to the Internet & wireless connectivity should be provided to both educators and students. Access to at least one mobile device and appropriate software. Open educational resources can promote innovative and creative opportunities for all learners and speed up the development and adoption of new technology. Building state & local education agency capacity for evolving. Develop and use interoperability standards for content and student-learning data. Develop and use interoperability standards for financial data to enable data-driven decision making.
  14. 14. Steps to productivity We must use the power of technology to redesign processes and structures to improve learning outcomes in a way that uses time, money, and staff efficiently. We must identify what we are looking for in learning outcomes.
  15. 15.  Use data to make continuous improvements. Evaluate current practices and remove processes that do not improve learning. Develop a system of collecting data and use it to determine if the current form of education is improving outcomes and productivity. Design, implement, and evaluate technology- powered programs to ensure they are appropriate for the students to progress through P-16 education and beyond.
  16. 16.  In order for us to be leaders in education, we must be leaders in the design and implementation using a new approach to R&D for education. There are four areas of focus › Continue to provide competitive grants for scaling innovative and evidence based practices through I3. › Transfer existing and emerging technology innovations from consumers, businesses, and entertainment into education. › Support and sustain the education R&D that is currently taking place at the National Science Foundation. › Create a new organization whose mission is to serve the public though R&D.
