Some states have titling for boats and others do not. Hawaii only
does Registration.
New vessel titling policies and procedures are planned to go into
effect July 1, 2021.
Go to the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of
Boating & Ocean Recreation (DLNR DOBOR) to get these
Boat Registration Numbers in Hawaii start with the letters “HA”
The Reg. No. must be displayed on the hull with a registration sticker

HULL ID Number location
A “State assigned” hull ID
would have the letters
“HAZ” in its 12 character
HIN. All others would have
the manufacturer code
instead.
Liens In Hawaii
Claims, Liens or Security interests on any non-documented boats
are recorded with DOBOR in the State of Hawaii
DOBOR implemented vessel titling on July 1, 2021. Hawaii vessel
titles will now display whether a lien is attached to the vessel
named in the title, excluding mechanic’s liens.
If the vessel is USCG documented, a lender’s security interests will
be recorded with the National Vessel Documentation Center
(NVDC) (ordered at boat-abstract.com)
