Kitchen evolution

  1. 1. The Evolution of The Kitchen
  2. 2. Here’s the original kitchen. Simple, clean and functional. The fridge sticks way out, and limited counter space.
  3. 3. Nice floor-to- ceiling pantries, a full-size dishwasher, and roomy sink with pull-out spray faucet.
  4. 4. Post-water damage, the clean-up crew was instructed to remove affected drywall. The cats were enjoying the added access. Note the narrow doorway on the far wall…
  5. 5. After insurance disbursement, widened the doorway, and added 13” of counter-height wall on the right to accommodate more cabinets.
  6. 6. Completed demolition of the remaining kitchen. Guest bath is serving as the interim dishwashing location, microwave is in guest bedroom, office (previously in the adjacent dining area) is moved to my bedroom.
  7. 7. Cabinets start going in…
  8. 8. Counter plywood & blue glass knobs… (I later learned from my handyman that they copped out to cheap plywood. You live, you learn…)
  9. 9. Blue quartzite counter & stainless undermount sink are installed… Microwave is in its new home. Not crazy about how the white light fixture looks…
  10. 10. So I painted it blue. Added stainless faucet and stove hood, …and *then* it occurred to me that the walls looked bland.
  11. 11. So I sprung for a tile back splash. Installed an 18” dishwasher and tiled up the floor…
  12. 12. Installed counter-depth fridge. The fridge’s side is actually black… I covered it with silver contact paper to blend in…
  13. 13. And I have my stove back. Added some under- cabinet lighting to make the tile pop.
  14. 14. Before…           After…
