Good Evening All Thank you to Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. in particular Mr. Christopher Campbell | Joshua Reynolds | Sarah Decker | Nancy B. Tonight I’ve been given free reign to talk about anything I want, so I will. I do not take it lightly that any of you have shown up on this evening. We didn’t know if it was going to be 1, 2 or 3 people. Nonetheless, I am an avid believer that nothing is by coincidence but that at this moment, on this day, at this time, we were destined to be here. Thus, I can promise you that it is not my intention to waste your time and so I just hope that you are ears, hearts, and minds are open to perhaps learning 1 new thing on tonight.
What are people saying about your: Integrity,Excellence & Scholarship? People meaning professors, deans, classmates, team members, friends, family, past supervisor…This nonsense that we shouldn’t care what other people think of us is simply not 100% true!
2010 Service Award, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.2010 Served on Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Career Panel2006 Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Achievement Award
Born in Boston, lived in Dorchester Upham’s Corner, Academy Homes (up from here), Hyde Park, Rhode Island, West Roxbury (all the while thinking my interest is to raise the bar) How many of you grew up in a perfect home? I remember I had a fire in my home and I lost everything! Upbringing was difficult: *Grew up in a home with domestic violence (VIP with 50, or as my mom would say, Po-Po) (all the while thinking I want better for my family, thus my interest is to raise the bar) *Abuse growing up…..inappropriate behavior *Struggled with self-esteem, in high school they thought I had an LD but I refused the test, that was until I got to college UMASS Amherst, not my 1st choice but it turned out for the best (benefits own dorm room) Any 1st generation college students here?*In college, I designed my own major. My 3 loves….*In college, I was attacked on a college campus (What is a gut instinct? Do you always follow it? In everyway?) Sex, Rape, Drugs, Alcohol , Disease (all)I thought everything was good when I got out of college but back home ended up in an abusive relationship. They say we are destined to repeat our parents lives. How many of you honestly want the life your parents have? So my question now is what you are doing every single day there is breathe in your body to make sure you do not end up on the same path as them? Realizing no-one is perfect.. I recently forgave them. Have you? After getting out of a really bad relationship with an X that almost cost me my life. I moved to JWU for graduate school. By then I had worked in finance, retail/fashion and was ready to go. Moved to RI and become Miss Black RI USA (Scholarships, Academic, Community Service & a Platform) and earned my MBA. Has anyone been to Gambia, West Africa? The Gambia is most notably known as the birthplace of KunteKinte and where the late African-American author, Alex Haley filmed the highly acclaimed television mini series "ROOTS.“ What about Casablanca Morocco? Amazing…Finishing up my degree I get a call that my parents are on campus… now uh? All the way to RI? How many of you know the Cambridge Charles River? My brother who was found in that river. Yet, she still inspired to do great things as a first generation college student. Natascha went from being a C and D student to earning her BS, M.S’09, and MBA. At present she is in pursuit of her Ed.D. at Northeastern University and currently attending Harvard Kennedy School earning a Leadership, Organization & Action Certificate. I had to keep my vision in my mind. The vision of me doing better, having better, living better and thinking better. At the end of the day I still have life in my being so what am I going to do with it? Each of you have lived through tragedies, whether they happened to you, your sibling, parents who had very bad upbringing like my dad – shoot I don’t even know if my last name should really be Saunders through no fault of my dad, family members that don’t accept you…but no matter what –each & every one of us – has an unwritten story! So my question to you is what is yours and how are you focused on improving the course of your lives.
Is your interest is to raise the bar? ~ Trey SongzI fought and am still fighting my way back Pain is Temporary? Now look where is high school? Where is middle school? I’ll tell you it’s over… in a few years college will be OVER and what will you have to show for it?#Youwinfromwithinhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JX33tc3rCqg Jordan, playing on heart & spirit… soon to be the biggest moment of your professional lives. Middle School is over! High School is over! *Let’s look at what others are saying about you? Personal Branding is what? What others say about you?
Let’s look at what others are saying about you? Personal Branding is what? What others say about you?
My story Wasting TimeJordan’s Heart & Soul ……over mind & matter We remember what is brand? We use our history, our lives to change the destiny of our futures! NEXT & last as we wind down.. What is a Vision Statement? Why is it important?
Jordan at first had trouble standing out on the school team. In fact, only a year after joining the team, as a tenth grader, he was cut from the varsity team. But this only pushed him to work harder at perfecting his game. As he later said on his Web site, "I think that not making the Varsity team drove me to really work at my game, and also taught me that if you set goals, and work hard to achieve them-the hard work can pay off."If I should die tomorrow, I will have no regrets, I did what I wanted to do. You can't expect more from life." ~ Bruce Lee What is a vision statement? What is the Vision for your life? Have you thought about it? Have you written it down? Give you some time to write it down..What do you want a home or a condo? A healthy body with no cancer? To graduate with honors? To change the course of your families destiny? To save money every week so you can be the one who purchases your car w/a loan? To have a closer relationship within your religion? Talk is cheap….. A wish is Feel or express a strong desire or hope for something that is not easily attainable; want something that cannot or probably will not happenA dream A series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person's mind during sleep.Vision: The faculty or state of being able to seeDefinition of Luck: When Preparing reaches and opportunity.
As a team we heal or we will crumble. Inch by Inch & play by play Intimate. With someone and you can die One lie, can turn into a story you soon to not rememberOne C- can take you out of a B average One wrong turn on the high way and you can be driving for 10 mins before you can turn around We can stay here and just nothing, don’t study, don’t try for the A’s, don’t’ go to classWe can dwell on your past mistakes, disappointments, what you parents haven’t done…. Can’t do… Or how you aren’t smart enough to get an A in Math or you are too shy to make a presentation Or you can find the help you need from your fraternity brothers or sorority sisters in order to help you succeed.. Getting good grades in school isn’t just about a job or earning a paycheck.. It tells the world, if you have discipline, do you have will power to pass on a party tonight because you know you have an exam in the morning, it tells me are you so only a short, narrow minded thinker or are you full of vision and setting yourself up for the just in case at 30 you want your MBA and they needed you to have a 3.5 GPA I can’t do it for you, no body can…. I look around and I see your faces and I know I made every wrong choice there is… men, money, career, academics, anyone that has loved me I gave them the boot, and lately looking in the mirror is hard. When you get older.. things change…You find out life is a game of inches like football… the margin of error is so small Fight to be different, Fight to get those A’s, Fight to stand out in your family, Fight to stand out in your neighborhood, It makes the difference between x and x Are you willing to lay it all out on the field, that’s what living in I hope that between my life story, my ability to over come my obstacles, my ability to stay focused on my personal brand.. And this speech that something on tonight reminded you that you’re life is only inches from greatest… please take & maximize every opportunity you have…Thank you!
