Question 4: How did you use media technologies in the Evaluation? By Tanya McDonald
WordpressHaving all my work on a easy to access website has proved to be veryuseful in my evaluation. It has made it easy to show people my work inorder to get their feedback on my trailer, poster and magazine cover;something which can be done anywhere with a computer (and aninternet connection).Pros: The evaluation can be easily organised into each question onthe blog and I can get feedback from people by linking the blog tothem.Cons: Slow internet connection means the work won’t load.
Adobe Premiere Pro CS5I continued to use Premiere Pro after the creation of my trailerto create videos for my evaluation. It has continued to prove tobe a useful and easy to use software for creating videos, inparticular for my evaluation when I filmed people watching thetrailer or talking about the trailer I was able to play the trailer ina smaller screen so that the watcher could see what they saw orunderstand what they’re explaining.Pros: It continues to be a useful software for creatingprofessional looking videos with easy to use effects.
SlideShareSlideShare is a Web 2.0 based slide hosting service. Users can upload filesprivately or publicly in the following file formats: PowerPoint, PDF, Keynote orOpenOffice presentations.Slideshows are a great way of collecting information together and presenting itin a way which is more interesting than a word document. SlideShare is a greatway for me to embed the slideshows I create straight into the posts onWordpress.Pros: I have never experienced a problem uploading or sharing slideshows withthis service and it has proved to be a quick and easy method.Cons: The slideshows embedded in the posts are very small so they need to beseen at full screen to be read properly.
Microsoft Powerpoint/KeynoteMicrosoft PowerPoint is a powerful communication tool to present our views andideas effectively using diagrams, photos, clip arts, sounds, designs and animatedspecial effects. Keynote is a presentation software application developed as a partof the iWork productivity suite by Apple Inc.I have used both of these programmes in my evaluation to create slideshows ofinformation about my trailer, magazine cover and poster. It was useful to be ableto go between the two depending on whether I was working at school or at home.Pros: Both of these programmes are easy to use and create professionalpresentations.Cons: There are sometimes problems with using presentations between the twoprogrammes.
SoundCloudSoundCloud is an online audio distribution platform which allowscollaboration, promotion and distribution of audio recordings.I used SoundCloud a lot in my evaluation to upload the audiointerviews I recorded of audience feedback and to embed them onWordpress.Pros: Easy and quick to use and upload audio clips, even if they are allmade public unless you pay.Cons: Sometimes the audio player (after it has been embedded in apost) can play up - meaning that the audio cannot be played.
PreziPrezi is a cloud-based (SaaS) presentation software and storytelling tool forexploring and sharing ideas on a virtual canvas. Prezi is distinguished by its ZoomingUser Interface (ZUI), which enables users to zoom in and out of their presentationmedia.Prezi was a great software to use in my evaluation as it allowed me to use photos, graphics and writing in an interesting arrangement and also made the presentationeven more interesting with the Zooming animations.Pros: Fairly easy to create interesting presentations which can be laid out in any wayyou want.Cons: When you are creating the presentation it can often freeze (which isn’t greatwhen you haven’t saved) and it needs a good internet connection in order to work.
SurveyMonkeySurveyMonkey is a private American company that enables users to createtheir own web-survey, using free and enhanced paid products and services.I only used SurveyMonkey briefly in my evaluation to get the audiencefeedback survey online so that I could share it with people and also post iton Wordpress.Pros: Easy to create surveys with many different options for questions andanswers.Cons: You can’t actually embed the survey in a post - you can only share thelink to it.
