How she does september 2nd 2013

  1. 1. HOW SHE DOES IT With ROBYN T. EMERSON 2nd September 2013
  2. 2. Robyn T. EmersonC.E.O Kenya Property Developers Association.
  3. 3. As a skilled public strategist and facilitator, Robyn has transformed communities with her creative approaches to “public” building. In July 2012, Robyn became the Chief Executive of Kenya Property Developers Association (KPDA) – Kenya’s apex membership organisation.
  4. 4. Community involvement is something Robyn is passionate about. Speaking out on issues that affect your local area harnesses the power we have as community members. Her vast experience across Kenya and America has shown her that sometimes one person is the spark that encourages others with similar ideas.
  5. 5. Robyn’s Nuggets of Wisdom
  6. 6. TAKE ACTION
  7. 7. “If you are not in action you can’t have new experiences.”
  8. 8. PURPOSE
  9. 9. “It’s not enough to be at the top of your career, individual experience is as – if not more – important as professional development. If you continually focus on your purpose within that job you will keep your drive and passion.”
  10. 10. “Our purpose in life comes naturally to us. We then have to stop and reflect and ask ourselves whether we are answering it. We have to make sure that every action is an expression of who we really are inside. ”
  11. 11. FAILURE
  12. 12. “Failures are not mistakes, failures just aren’t celebrated enough. Failures often take you to where you need to go, showing you what you need to do differently in the future.”
  13. 13. “Transformations happen when you fail, and transformation is integral to growth. Sometimes when things work, we just nod and step back, failing to ask...what else could it do?”
  14. 14. DEFINITIONS
  15. 15. “People’s expectations can sometimes define you, and how things should work. It’s more important though to find your own expectations of yourself, and be clear about how that will work for you and the people in your life.”
  16. 16. Robyn asked members to consider how to have a fully, engaging experience, ensuring we don’t only live to others definition of ourselves.
  17. 17. “You then have to figure out how to ensure people are cheering for the new definition you have made for your life. One way is to live with confidence.”
