The goals for this short talk <ul><li>Quickly review how we’ve embedded skills and context of internals in L1, L2 & L3 </li></ul><ul><li>Sharing of ideas: feel free to comment or share ideas your school as used at any time </li></ul><ul><li>Files to share: just email me if you would like a copy of any file mentioned </li></ul>

Overarching internal philosophy <ul><li>Embed internals: hits 2 birds with 1 stone </li></ul><ul><li>Start year with 1 st of many skill-set experiment / activities: scale up over 1 or 2 terms & assume no previous skills exist </li></ul><ul><li>Skill-set include: </li></ul><ul><li>Using practical gear & tinkering </li></ul><ul><li>Analysis of data (calculation & graphing) </li></ul><ul><li>Interpretation of data (making equation & conclusion & discussion) </li></ul>
  4. 4. 1 st day homework overtly linked to P1.1, P2.1 or P3.1 (see downloadable files for details) <ul><li>Context in 1 st unit of the year </li></ul><ul><li>Given info & incomplete data table (raw data supplied) </li></ul><ul><li>Overt instructions similar to TKI bullet-points to finish data table, make graph(s), LOBF (& error line), gradient(s) with units and write conclusion. </li></ul>

P1.1 plan morphed as 2011 progressed (see downloadable file for details) <ul><li>Planned portfolio of 3 scuttled for 1 assessment & 1 reassessment </li></ul><ul><li>Adopted continuous assessment: kids skip other lesson. No complaints happened </li></ul><ul><li>2012: reassessment starts last period & goes after school </li></ul><ul><li>Assessed P1.1s: used 2 of 5 NZIP P1.1 (terminal vel & force vs mass on beam) </li></ul>
  6. 6. Other 1.1’s <ul><li>L1SCI & L1CHE use C1.1. 2012 plan to embed into Acid/Base unit like P1.1 </li></ul><ul><li>L1BIO don’t use B1.1 (other internals instead) </li></ul><ul><li>If anyone knows of “bullet-proof” B1.1 please let me know – I’m hunting for our Year 10 Accelerates </li></ul>

How we plan on running P2.1 <ul><li>Assessment like L1: continuous exp & planned use of TKI instruction bullet-points </li></ul><ul><li>Assessment & possible reassessment may not be in L2phy context (T vs L of pendulum or similar) </li></ul><ul><li>Issues with up to 32-ish kids per class must be included in decisions </li></ul><ul><li>1 of my hopes: NZIP sets up a few P2.1 pre-moderated tasks early in 2012 like P1.1 </li></ul>

(see downloadable files for details) <ul><li>Keep an eye on TKI for new-matrix P3.1. </li></ul><ul><li>Hope that P3.1 will simplify based on draft explanatory notes </li></ul><ul><li>But until doc interpreted (sample tasks & moderator feedback) we just won’t know </li></ul><ul><li>In 2012, we plan to continue with our current P3.1 plan – streamlined </li></ul><ul><li>4-hr continuous assessment: early term 3 start 1 st period and go through till lunch </li></ul>
