  3. 3. J N V J /DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH /POET / IX – CLASS /2012/13 W.W.E.ROSS“ Though never widely read outside academic circles ... Ross had clearly thought out his attitudes toward poetry early on and diverged little from his initial position."[6] "He objected to both difficult and ornate verse and found the conventional romanticism of Canada's Confederation poets particularly unappealing."[2] He "was disapprovingly detached from what was happening in Canadian poetry in general and disliked Pratt's 'pretty expert wordjuggling and rhyming' in particular.... He felt more enthusiastic about poems by Pickthall, Knister and Patrick Anderson than Pratt, and Tom MacInnes 'quite hypnotized' him."[6] His chief American influences were E.E. Cummings and Marianne Moore.[2] Smt. Taruna Chimanlal Parmar T.G.T.(English)

  7. 7. JAWAHAR NAVODAYA VIDYALAYA JHABUA BHOPAL REGION J N V J /DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH /SUMMARY / IX – CLASS /2012/13 SUMMARY The Snake Trying -W.W.E.Ross In the poem ,the poet tries to say that all snakes are not poisonous. Some them are quite harmless.  It is foolish to kill a snake as soon as we see it. Even if a snake is poisonous, it will do us no harm if it dosen’t see any danger from us . A snake always bites in self protection only.  Otherwise, it is an harmless as any other creature. But sadly human beings always try to kill a snake as soon as they see it. Smt. Taruna Chimanlal Parmar T.G.T.(English)
