After scrutiny and due process the site location, the Wits Education Campus ― in
Parktown, adjacent to the Wits Medical School and Charlotte Maxeke Hospital ― was
ruled the most viable for the Hospital. Agreement with Wits regarding the land was
entered into in July 2009.
200-bed, 8-theatre hospital with state-of-the-art diagnostic capabilities with expansion
to 300 beds.
Will employ approximately 655 staff, including specialist doctors and nurses, and will
contribute to the training of paediatric professionals. An agreement has been reached
with GDHSD to train medical professionals.
To use a majority of South African professionals and attract back South African medical
professionals currently working overseas. Specialised nurse training will be in
partnership with Wits prior to the opening of NMCH. The nursing strategy places
nurses at the core of holistic paediatric care.
Child and environmentally-friendly design and service considerations to ensure a

conjunction with South African Architects GAPP and Ruben Reddy.
