INTRODUCTION <ul><li>In accordance with the powers conferred upon him under Article 99(1) ,113(11)and 171 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and in his vision “ Prosperity for All” 2006 Manifesto , H.E. the President of the Republic of Uganda, created the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT) </li></ul><ul><li>In April, 2007 Cabinet approved the Ministry’s Organizational Structures and Establishment . </li></ul>12/08/11 Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT)

Mandate, Vision, Mission & Strategic Objectives for the Ministry <ul><li>Mandate. </li></ul><ul><li>To provide strategic and technical leadership, overall coordination, support and advocacy on all matters of policy, laws, regulations and strategy; sustainable, effective and efficient development, harnessing and utilization of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in all spheres of life to enable the country achieve its national development goals. </li></ul>12/08/11 Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT)

Vision <ul><li>A knowledge -based Uganda where national development, and good governance, are sustainably enhanced and accelerated by timely and secure access to information and efficient application of ICT. </li></ul>12/08/11 Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT) Mission. To promote the development of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure and services throughout the country.

Sector Strategic Objectives <ul><li>To develop Information Technology services such that they can significantly contribute to national development; </li></ul><ul><li>To promote use of information technologies in all spheres of life to enhance efficiency and effectiveness; </li></ul><ul><li>To increase teledensity and geographical coverage of telecommunications services with a high quality of service; </li></ul><ul><li>To have in place a balanced and coordinated national and regional communications infrastructure; </li></ul><ul><li>To promote affordable rural communications; </li></ul><ul><li>To provide affordable and accessible postal services countrywide; </li></ul><ul><li>To provide high quality broadcasting infrastructure countrywide; </li></ul><ul><li>To provide high quality market-driven and sustainable training, research and consultancy services that support the ICT sector. </li></ul>12/08/11 Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT)
