Who is the Pre-sessional aCaDeMiC englishPrograMMe for?This programme is designed for those who do not meet the minimum English Languagerequirements for entry onto HND, undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.On successful completion, students will meet the minimum English language level for entryonto courses at The University of Northampton.Modules have been designed to develop the intellectual abilities, study habits, language andcommunication skills essential for higher education in the UK.flexible struCtureOur programme is designed to be as flexible as possible. You study for as many (or as few)terms as you need to improve your English to the level needed for entry onto your chosenundergraduate or postgraduate degree. You can join at the beginning of any term, althoughthe best time to join depends on your entry level, your desired exit level (whether you wantto join an undergraduate or postgraduate degree), and when you wish to start your degree(postgraduate degrees have both September and January intakes). We are happy to adviseyou about the best time to join to meet your needs.entry levelMinimum entry level is IELTS 4.0 or equivalent. If you enter at this level you will usuallyneed to study for four terms to reach IELTS 6.0 for entry onto an undergraduate degree. Autumn term 3 Oct 2011 - 16 Dec 2011 (11 weeks) Flexible Start Date Spring term You are able to start the Summer term (2) 16 Jan 2012 - 30 Mar 2012 programme at the 16 Jul 2012 - 7 Sept 2012 (11 weeks) begining of any term which (8 weeks) is convenient with you Summer term (1) 23 April 2012 - 29 Jun 2012 (10 weeks)
  3. 3. rate of ProgressionEach term aims to improve your English by 0.5 IELTS points, although you shouldremember that different people will progress at different speeds.What suPPort Will you get?You will benefit from strong academic and personal support throughout the year to enableyou to cope with the transition from home to a very different academic and culturalenvironment. We see this as a very important part of the programme.Course ContentEach term you will study four modules: You will spend a minimum of 20 hours- Use of English per week in taught classes and you should- Reading and writing expect to spend at least a further 15 hours- Listening and speaking per week practicing your English and- Study skills and projects completing activities given by your tutor.feesAutumn, Spring, Summer term (1) are £2500 each or £6950 for all three.Summer term (2) is £1250
