Love, the greatest commandment: Part 10

  1. 1. Love, the Greatest Commandment, Part 10 Be Happy for the Good Fortune of Others The tenth of the Ten Commandments says: “You shall not covet” (Exodus 20:17 ESV). When we love God with all of our heart, soul, and mind, and our neighbor as ourselves …1 We are happy for them when they have something good, even if it’s something we would like to have. Instead of focusing on what we wish we had for ourselves, we focus on being happy for the other person. 1 Matthew 22:37–39 ESV Asher, your kite flies so well! One day I’m going to buy one like that.
  2. 2. What a nice kite! I’d love having one like that! Mom, let’s buy this kite as a surprise for Hazel. But Asher, are you sure? I suspect you’d like to buy it for yourself. This summer fly a kite
  3. 3. Yes, Mom. I’d enjoy having this kite, but I already have a great kite. I want Hazel to have a nice one, too. Jesus teaches us to turn our focus more to giving: “Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away” (Matthew 5:42 NKJV). Look at me! Way to go, sis! You’re the best! I want a kite like that, too!
