Satpara Development Project
Satpara Development Project (SDP) is a five-year USAID funded project designed with an ultimate objective to
maximize the impact on the people living within the command area of right and left bank canals of the Satpara
Dam at Skardu. SDP is contributing to this ultimate objective through implementation on four complementary
components: (i) Efficient Use of On-Farm Irrigation Water, (ii) Enhanced Productivity of Higher Value Horticulture
and Dairy Products, (iii) Enhanced Processing and Marketing Capacity of the Area, and (iv) Creation of an
Enabling Environment for the Agriculture Sector to Grow.
In terms of program implementation, the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) and Aga Khan Foundation
Pakistan (AKF,P) are jointly implementing this project. AKRSP is responsible for overall project implementation
while AKF’P is responsible for inter-agency coordination, monitoring and grant management and being the
Executing Agency, it bears the ultimate responsibility for project results and reporting to USAID.
My role and achievements at AKRSP/Satpara Development Project are as follows:
Designed business and markting plans for target products to attract investors /farmers /procesors to
intervine in selected value chains and identified markets for target products through development of
efficient supply chain;
Explored different products and trade opportunities in and outside GB through creation of market linkages
of farmers with buyers and set specific sales targets for target products;
Launched market information system and farmer education system by using Mobile SMS to produce
quality products for high end markets;
Managed training programs on business acceleration for stakeholders by adopting USAID’s value chain
approach;
Developing Skardu network for rural development to enhance bargaining power of farmers and economy
of scale through collective marketing and developing efficient supply chain;
Developing collection centre/hub / packhouse for the farmers of four value chains to promote collective

The five-year Agribusiness Project is funded by USAID and is being implemented by Agribusiness Support Fund
(ASF). The goal of Project is to support improved conditions for broad-based economic growth, create
employment opportunities and contribute to poverty alleviation through increase in competitiveness of horticulture
and livestock value chains. The Project activities are organized into two components i.e. (i) on-going technical
and capacity building assistance and (ii) a cost-sharing grants program, offering a wide range of grant products
to all players within the targeted value chains.
My Role / Achievements at The Agribusiness Project as Value Chain Lead-Citrus were as follows:
Designed and implemented capacity development training program for the workforce of 16 kinnow
processors/exporters to improve kinnow quality, minimized harvest, post-harvest losses and resultantly
maximized profitability of 16 beneficiaries having export volume of kinnow 200,000 tons;
Managed training program of“kinnow harvest and postharvest management” and trained workforce (580)
at different operational areas of kinnow export supply chain included Harvesters (187), Sorters (153),
Loaders (33), plant operators (50), Packers (19), cold store operators (21) and reefer loaders (117);
Completed survey of kinnow processors/exporters and conducted gap analysis of industry;
Developed International & National Market Linkages through participation of 10 kinnow exporters in
international trade fares and national exhibitions/expos at Islamabad, Karachi & Lahore;
Introduced food safety export compliance certification (glogbal GAP, HACCP, ISO:2200) among 16
beneficiaries/exporters;
Submitted SOWs/concept notes and PRs for the approval of different interventions included training
programs, procurement of harvest & pruning tool kits, support for export certification and exposure study

Overall responsibility for potential interventions and designed, planned, implemented, monitored and
coordinated the implementation of the USAID/ASF horticultural project components in 11 districts of
South Punjab;
Coordinated stakeholders for International Market Linkages/Access Program for Germany (Fruit
Logistica), Masco (Fruit World) & Dubai (AgraMe);
Coordinated and identified key private sector led project interventions to foster quantitative and
qualitative improvements in the sector, either through direct intervention, through service providers or
through specific inputs from international technical assistance inputs;
Worked on annual work plan, and activity based budgeting, and key performance indicators critical to

meeting with chili stakeholders and initiated SOW for Technical and Managerial Training Program for

Identified potential grantees for in-kind and cash grants in targeted value chain to improve
agribusiness efficiency, profitability and enhanced employment;
