BANGLADESH
Bangladesh, officially the People's Republic of Bangladesh, is a country in South Asia. It is the eighth-most
populous country in the world, with a population exceeding 163 million people in an area of either 148,460
square kilometres (57,320 sq mi) or 147,570 square kilometres (56,980 sq mi), making it one of the most
densely populated countries in the world.
INDEPENDENCE OF BANGLADESH
The Independence of Bangladesh was declared
on 26 March 1971 at the first watch by Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman . Another declaration was read
out on 27 March 1971, by Major Ziaur Rahman, on
behalf of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The people of
Bangladesh then took part in a war to get
independence from Pakistan. After 9 months of
war, Bangladesh got victory in 16 December 1971.
GEOGRAPHY OF BANGLADESH
Bangladesh is a small, lush country in South Asia; located on
the Bay of Bengal. It is surrounded almost entirely by
neighboring India—and shares a small border with Myanmar
to its southeast, though it lies very close to Nepal, Bhutan,
and China. The country is divided into three regions. Most of
the country is dominated by the fertile Ganges Delta, the
largest river delta in the world. The northwest and central
parts of the country are formed by the Madhupur and the
Barind plateaus. The northeast and southeast are home to
evergreen hill ranges.
POLITICS AND GOVERNMENT
Bangladesh is a country of democracy under its
constitution, with a Westminster-style unitary
parliamentary republic that has universal
suffrage. The head of government is the Prime
Minister, who is invited to form a government
every five years by the President. The President
invites the leader of the largest party in
parliament to become Prime Minister of the
world's fifth-largest democracy.
ECONOMY OF BANGLADESH
Bangladesh has the world's 39th largest economy in terms of market exchange
rates and 29th largest in terms of purchasing power parity, which ranks second
in South Asia after India. Bangladesh is also one of the world's fastest-growing
economies and one of the fastest growing middle-income countries. The
country has a market-based mixed economy. A developing nation, Bangladesh
is one of the Next Eleven emerging markets. According to the IMF, its per-
capita income was US$1,906 in 2019, with a GDP of $317 billion.
DEMOGRAPHICS OF BANGLADESH
Estimates of the Bangladeshi population vary, but UN data suggests
161,376,708 (162.9 million) in 2017. The 2011 census estimated 142.3
million, much less than 2007–2010 estimates of Bangladesh's population
(150–170 million). Bangladesh is the world's eighth-most-populous nation
and the most densely-populated large country in the world, ranking 7th in
population density even when small countries and city-states are included.
