  3. 3. The Human Resources Function Defined: <ul><li>The primary function of the Human Resources Department is to establish, develop, maintain and communicate personnel policies to the entire company and to represent, help, advise and consult with the employees of the organization. </li></ul>

Company Policies <ul><li>Example of a policy: </li></ul><ul><li>PTO - Paid Time Off - A company recognizes the need for employees to receive time off for vacations,sickness and/or personal reasons. In addition to paid holidays. </li></ul><ul><li>PTO is a combinations of hours accrued on bi-weekly basis to be kept in a bank for the employee to manage as use for the above reasons. Hours calculated may vary based on full-time/part-time status and level of position. </li></ul>

We try to create a safe, comfortable and confidential environment for our employees at all times. However, employees should regard the human resources dept. as neutral and impartial. </li></ul>

Summary <ul><li>This chapter focused on the functions of the human resources department: The department must maintain fairness to individual employees while simultaneously representing the interests of the company’s management. Also on a day to day basis, the department is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and communicating personnel policies to the entire company. </li></ul>
