  1. 1. The Holy Rosary
  2. 2. •The Rosary is a form of prayer and meditation which reflects on the lives of Jesus and Mary ÞThe word Rosary comes from the Latin word rosarium, which means “rose garden” ÞTradition says that St. Dominic had a vision of Our Lady in 1214. Mary told him to pray and teach the Rosary. St. Dominic is credited with spreading devotion to the Rosary.
  3. 3. = October 7 is the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Rosary; October is a month dedicated to the Rosary ÞAs each decade of the Rosary is said, we reflect on a Mystery which recalls events in the life of Jesus. A decade is a set of ten Hail Marys. ÞPrayers said in the Rosary: The Apostle’s Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, the Hail Mary, the Doxology (Glory Be), the Hail, Holy Queen ÞIn 1917, after a vision of the Blessed Mother in Fatima, Portugal, the Fatima Prayer was added to the Rosary ÞIn 2002, Pope John Paul II introduced the Luminous Mysteries

  5. 5. PRAYERS OF THE ROSARY The Apostle’s Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
  6. 6. The Hail Holy Queen Hail Holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us, and after this, out exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Pray for us O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
  7. 7. The Fatima Prayer O, my sweet Jesus, forgive us our sins; save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of your mercy. Prayer After the Rosary O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and Resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; grant we beseech you that we who meditate upon these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise. We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
