  3. 3. Safety guidelines – Workshop  Store coats and bags neatly, neatness is vital.  Keep your bench tidy  Always follow the teacher’s instructions  If you are not sure of something – ASK  Always WALK  Never throw anything  Report all accidents
  4. 4. Safety guidelines – tools  Carry all tools by your side  Use personal protection equipment, eyes, ears, Lungs. Why????  Think twice cut once!!!  Use the tools slowly until you are used to them.  Keep hands and fingers behind the cutting edge of tools  Always work away from your body when using sharp cutting tools
  5. 5. Hands A huge amount of injuries in the woodwork room happen to the hands, Why??? Simple things like keeping the hands behind the blade when using the chisel make it much easier
  6. 6. Safety guidelines – Materials  Brush dust from the bench – never blow the dust away (eyes)  Wear safety glasses and a dust mask when sanding.  Protective gloves should be worn when handling hot materials.  Wear the correct protective equipment when using chemicals such as adhesives and finishes.
  7. 7. Safety signs  Signs warn of possible danger  They give important information about safe procedures and equipment  Always read instructions on containers and machines
  8. 8. Personal protective equipment  Eye protection(dust particles)  Face protection  Dust masks and face masks (inhalation)  Ear protection (sound proof)

When using powertools Safety precautions for power tools  Remove all loose clothing and jewellry.  Note the position in the room of the emergency stop buttons.  Keep hands clear of moving parts or blades.  Wear PPE  Only use power-tools with teachers permission  Don’t interfere with others using the equipment  Transformers reduce the electricity used in the tool to make it safer.
  10. 10. Workshop safety features  Its very important to stay away from power tools until you are shown correctly by the teacher.  Electrical safety features – Isolation switches – Emergency stop buttons  Dust extraction  Machine guards  Fire extinguishers  Transformers
