Is "real translator jobs" a scam?

Published on

We'll try to find out if the website is a scam. I took this website as an example because I've seen it many times on Google Adwords results, it looks to clearly targets users in poor countries.

Is "real translator jobs" a scam?

  1. 1. Case StudyIs a scam? By @kolargol
  2. 2. What is Realtranslatorjobs.comIt is a website that helps bilingual people by givingthem well-paid translation jobs.Ive seen it many time in Adwords results on Google asI live in Asia, youre less likely to see it if you live in anEnglish speaking country.
  3. 3. Lets start with the questions you should ask yourself if youwant to spot a scam and avoid to be tricked. Is the offer unbelievable? No, translation jobs exist. Is it a pyramidal system?Does not look to be.If I were the webmaster of this website, would I keepthis for myself?Nothing really secret here.
  4. 4. Wow, it passed the first tests! Looks real good!
  5. 5. Lets have a look at the page, there is a girl showing some bills but itsmore a general image and there are no testimonials.Once again, we can give it the benefit of the doubt.
  6. 6. So well look at the website, its really suspicious! There is nothing about the company of course, not even a name. The FAQ gives one interesting information, see below. The website waslooking free for me even if it was not clearly stated. We now discover thatthere is a fee obviously, lets continue anyway. Its confirmed by the presence of an affiliate program. So there is a fee.
  7. 7. What does Google say?First we find the marketing websites made by friends or by theowner himself:You get that is totally dedicatedto this program, we can ignore this one seeing the domain namebut I visit it to be sure and... as expected its not objective. Then you have an article on a more generalist website which gives all the ways to be tricked ifyou want to work at home, all with referral links of course. Thereare many other wonderful offers there, you can for examplebecome an office cleaner without any investment... aside fromthe starting kit. :)
  8. 8. And there are the forums... If you scroll a little in the search results, you find two topicsdedicated to this website, they are relevant as they are both on translators dedicated forums: & As expected they dont believe in this program.
  9. 9. I think we can conclude without too much risk by saying that is kind of scamBy reading the posts on the forums, we see thatthe website just gives you names of companiesto contact, no direct job.The refund process is either long or justinexistant.
