Branches in chemistry

 1. 1. Branches in Chemistry Disciplines and Sub-Discplines
 2. 2. Main Branches of Chemistry

Analytical Chemistry - is the study of the separation, identification, and quantification of the chemical components of natural and artificial materials. It has qualitative analysis which is more on the physical properties and identity and quantitative analysis the measurement and amount of a certain substance.

 3. 3. Main Branches of Chemistry

Organic chemistry – study of carbon containing substances. Usually derived from or related to living organisms. For historical reasons a few types of compounds such as carbonates , simple oxides of carbon and cyanides , as well as the allotropes of carbon , are considered inorganic.

 4. 4. Main Branches of Chemistry

Inorganic chemistry – is the branch of chemistry concerned with the properties and behavior of inorganic compounds. This field covers all chemical compounds except the myriad organic compounds. This includes earthly minerals, salts, inorganic acids and bases, and water. Substances that could be synthesized with the intervention of living organisms.

 5. 5. Main Branches of Chemistry

Physical Chemistry – is the study of the physical and fundamental basis of chemical systems and processes. This could range from physical properties, behavior and physics of matter. The discplines ranges from analytical chemistry, molecular chemistry, and quantum chemistry. It is more theoretical and it has more mathematics.

 6. 6. Main Branches of Chemistry

Biochemistry – is the study of the chemistry in biological processes of all living organisms. There is an evident overlapping of different branches of chemistry but they are all observed in the systems of living things.

 7. 7. Main Branches of Chemistry

Nuclear Chemistry – is the study of radioactive elements nuclear processes and nuclear properties.

Radioactive decay is the process by which an unstable atomic nucleus loses energy by emitting ionizing particles or radiation.

 8. 8. Main Branches of Chemistry

Materials Chemistry – i s the preparation, characterization, and understanding of substances with a useful function. This is more of application of chemistry in different sciences, engineering and industry.
