  5. 5. Know how to take care of yourcomputer and disks, and then do it.*Note: some speakers and paperclipholders have magnets, don’t storefloppy disks next to them or they canbe damaged or erased.

Deleting something doesn’t necessarily meanit’s really gone. *Note: deleting a file simplysaves it to your recycle bin (garbage can)until it’s emptied, also many programs havean undo button if you accidentally deletesomething, and some programs (includingcertain e-mail programs) automatically savesa copy of your work when a machine crashes(freezes).

Make sure your screen isstraight in front of you, keep the keyboardand your chair at the proper elevation foryour height, and if possible take short breakswhen working long time periods on thecomputer.
  13. 13. People learn at different rates. Justbecause some people you know havemastered the fine points while you’restill having difficulty with the basicsdoesn’t mean they’re smarter than youare. Work at your own pace and let therest of the world take care of itself.

Youdon’t need to be a mechanic to drive a car.With continued use, you will find computersare not very mysterious or scary. You canmaster them with practice.

Your brain at rest is far morepowerful than the most advancedcomputer working at its full capacity.Computers can’t do most of the mentaltasks you take for granted, includingintuition, independent learning,associative memory, creativity,dedication, emotion and flexibility.
