  2. 2. EMPOWERMENT World Bank says: • “Empowerment is the process of increasing the capacity of individuals or groups to make choices and to transform these choices into desired actions and outcomes.”

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT • Women empowerment refers to Increasing the spiritual, political, Social, educational, gender or economic strength of Individuals or communities of women • It is the process or the outcome of process by which women challenge gender based discrimination in every institution and structures of society

NEED FOR WOMEN EMPOWERMENT • The main problems that were faced by women in past days ( and still today up to some extent) • Gender discrimination • Women education • Female infanticide • Dowry • Marriage in same cast and child marriage (still existing) • Atrocities on women: raped, kicked ,killed, subdued, humiliated almost daily
  5. 5. NEED FOR WOMEN EMPOWERMENT (CONTINUE) • Educational problems • Society • Low confidence • Lack of unity • Traditional barriers • Poverty and ignorance
  6. 6. NEED FOR WOMEN EMPOWERMENT ( CONTINUE) Women are deprived of: • Decision making power • Freedom of movement • Access to education • Access to employment • Exposure to media • Domestic violence

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT IN PAKISTAN • Women empowerment has always remained a contested issue in the complex socio-demographic and cultural environment of Pakistani society • Women are ranked lower than men on all vital human development indicators • Therefore, studying various determinants of women empowerment is urgently needed in Pakistani context
  8. 8. CAUSES OF WORST CONDITION OF WOMEN IN PAKISTAN • We deprive women of their rights in the name of Islam • Society of Pakistan won’t let a woman succeed • No policy making for women empowerment • Lack of education and environment • In Pakistan women are not given basic infrastructure

SOME STORIES OF WOMEN EMPOWERMENT IN PAKISTAN Malala Yousafzai • She was born on July 12, 1997 in KPK • She is a Pakistani female education activist and the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize laureate at the age of 17 • She is the World’s youngest Nobel Peace Prize laureate , and the second Pakistani, and the first Pashtun • She is well known for human rights advocacy, especially education of women and children in her homeland Swat , where the Taliban at that time banned girls from attending school

AYESHA FAROOQ • She was born on August 24, 1987 in Bahawalpur • She is the first woman to become a fighter pilot in Pakistan Air force (PAF) • She topped in the final exam to qualify for Fighter pilot • She is the only qualified for combat and to fly sorties along the border • Ayesha Farooq is one of 19 women to have become Pilots in the PAF since 2000s

WAYS TO EMPOWER WOMEN • Providing education • Self Employment and self help groups • Providing minimum needs like nutrition, health, sanitation, housing • Other than this, society should change the mentality towards the word “woman” • Encouraging women to develop in their fields they are good at and make a career
  12. 12. CONCLUSION • Women empowerment is a big is a big issue that Pakistan is facing • It is most important to create awareness and understanding of the problem of women’s employment in all the top policy and decision making • Government of Pakistan should take strategic steps to help women
