  7. 7. In 1979 Kevin MacKenzie proposed using punctuation to express gesture and facial expressions.

  10. 10. <ul><li>Use in informal communication (not when you need to be taken seriously).
  11. 11. Count how many times you use emoticons, try to keep it to one per correspondence.
  12. 12. Remember your age – too much usage may give the impression of immaturity.
  13. 13. Remember that teens and preteens use emoticons excessively.
  14. 14. Keep emoticons simple.
