  2. 2.  Walt Whitman was born on May 31, 1819 Lived in West Hills in Long Island ,New York. He had seven brothers and sisters. Second oldest child. Moved to Brooklyn, New York when he was not quite four years old.
  3. 3.  Walt used verses from the bible to use in his poems . He used unusual images and symbols in his poetry. He also liked to write about death .
  4. 4.  Walt began to write and edit various articles for newspapers that’s what made him want to write poems.
  5. 5.  When his father died he started writing his poems. Over the years Whitman published more editions of Leaves of Grass. Walt had some financial difficulties for his entire life. After working as an office clerk.
