Project Implicit: Race IAT

 1. 1. Michelle Babb
February 1, 2011
Project Implicit: Race IAT
Before IAT administration: I do not completely agree that people as a whole are in complete oblivion regarding their unconsciously motivated behavior. To an extent I do believe this is the case, but I also believe that this may also serve as an opportune excuse for a person to act biased towards those of a particular race. I presume and hope that people are able to work beyond their subliminal thoughts, whatever they may be, and act in a way that may indeed differ from what their subconscious believes.
After IAT administration: I received a result stating that my data suggested a strong automatic preference for European American compared to African American. I went into the administration with no expectations, though I am surprised to receive this particular result, as it is the most extreme end of the spectrum. Certainly my result was affected by second-hand knowledge from cultural traditions, the Internet, and news media.
