I offer copyediting, proofreading, and (select) peer-reviewing services to prepare
academic manuscripts for publication.
I am a much-published and critically acclaimed author of academic monographs
(Greenwood Press, Yale University Press), anthology chapters (Oxford
University Press, Duke University Press, Northeastern University Press, Artes
Publishing, Stride Publishing, Volke Verlag), and peer-reviewed journal papers
(Grove Dictionary of American Music, Journal of Folklore Research, Journal of the
American Musicological Society, Journal of the Society for American Music,
Columbia University’s Jazz Studies Online, Chamber Music, Inside Arts, Signal to
Noise, International Society for Improvised Music newsletter). In most of these
projects I did the bulk of my own editing and proofreading to specs.
I have also contracted with several academic presses and authors to give peer
reviews in my field of music studies (University of Chicago Press) and to edit,
proofread, and format to style guide specs (Chicago and APA, for University of
Michigan Press, Oxford University Press, and Routledge).
Current references for such work (on request):
Cecilia Miller (Wesleyan University history professor, copyedited/proofread her
monograph in press at Routledge, Enlightenment and Political Fiction: The
Everyday Intellectual)
Su Zheng (Wesleyan University music professor, edited for
idiomatic/grammatical English most of her 2010 monograph for Oxford University
Press, Claiming Diaspora: Music, Transnationalism, and Cultural Politics in
Asian/Chinese America)
Jin Hi Kim (2010 Guggenheim Fellow in Musical Composition, edited for
idiomatic/grammatical English her memoir Komungo Tango for University of
Michigan Press)
Bob Gluck (University at Albany/SUNY music professor, peer-reviewed his
monographs You'll Know When You Get There: Herbie Hancock and the
Mwandishi Band [University of Chicago Press, 2012] and Revolutionary
Ensembles: Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Anthony Braxton, Leroy Jenkins
[University of Chicago Press, in press])
