    2. 2. Applications of web3D include: Driven by various Web3D technologies, 3D on the Web is all around us. Web3D is the term used to describe interactive online 3D content.
    3. 3. A royalty-free open standard file format and run-time architecture to represent and communicate 3D scenes and objects that integrates with the Web.

X3D (Extensible 3D) is the royalty-free open standards file format and run-time architecture to represent and communicate 3D scenes and objects in XML. <ul><li>Componentized : allows lightweight core 3D runtime delivery engine </li></ul><ul><li>Extensible : allows components to be added to extend functionality for vertical market </li></ul><ul><li>applications and services </li></ul><ul><li>Profiled : standardized sets of extensions to meet specific application needs </li></ul><ul><li>Evolutionary : easy to update and preserve VRML97 content as X3D </li></ul><ul><li>Broadcast/Embedded Application Ready : from mobile phones to supercomputers </li></ul><ul><li>Real-Time : graphics are high quality, real-time, interactive, and include audio and video as well </li></ul><ul><li>as 3D data. </li></ul><ul><li>Well-Specified : makes it easier to build conformant, consistent, and bug-free implementations </li></ul>

The Web3d Consortium is a member-funded industry consortium committed to the Creation and deployment of open, royalty-free standards that enable the communication of real-time 3D across applications, networks, and XML web services. Supported by international participation, ISO certification, and these relationships.

    10. 10. MedX3D is tightly focused on medical applications that can benefit from real time 3D visualization. These types of applications include medical modeling and simulation for research and education; 3D image rendering for planning and guiding surgical and nuclear medicine procedures; image fusion-the association of specific 2D images from multimodal (PET, CAT, MRI, Ultrasound) scans with one another or with existing 3D images of a given patient.
