  1. 1. Human Rights Violations in China The horrors, abuses and atrocities committed against human kind in China. By Meryl Honig
  2. 2. Imprisonment <ul><li>Imprisoned without reason or warning </li></ul><ul><li>Brutal treatment while in prison </li></ul><ul><li>Cruel punishments for small crimes </li></ul><ul><li>Imprisoned for criticism of government </li></ul>
  3. 3. Censorship & Repression <ul><li>Millions forbidden to practice religion </li></ul><ul><li>All opposing thoughts and people are imprisoned </li></ul><ul><li>Foreign media banned </li></ul><ul><li>Protestors under house arrest </li></ul>
  4. 4. Tiananmen Square <ul><li>People's Liberation Army tanks and 300,000 soldiers moved into Tiananmen Square in Beijing to crush a large pro-democracy demonstration that had been going on for seven weeks. The tanks rolled over people that got in their way and soldiers opened fire on groups of protesters. </li></ul><ul><li>Never before had the People's Liberation Army turned its weapons on the Chinese people with the intention of murdering so many of them. Demonstrations at Tiananmen Square in 1976 and 1987 had been broken up with batons and tear gas not guns and tanks. </li></ul>

Tibetan Affairs <ul><li>China is using a quick economic growth policy to help the economy in Tibet, however with no political reforms to back this plan up, they are making very little progress </li></ul><ul><li>Tibetans resent the ill treatment of their people, and cried out for help at the 2008 Olympics. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Economic Side Effects <ul><li>The farming industry is being killed </li></ul><ul><li>40,000 farmers are without land </li></ul><ul><li>Prices being driven up, people going hungry. </li></ul>

Solution #1: Cease of Importing by U.S and other countries <ul><li>Positives- </li></ul><ul><li>China would understand the severity of this issue and work to correct their behavior, otherwise continue to lose money on their exports. </li></ul>Negatives- We have the risk of then China not importing our goods, in which case we too would lose money. We also run the risk of sparking a war.

Solution #2 Writing a letter <ul><li>Negatives- </li></ul><ul><li>The letter may not have desired effect, or may not be read or even taken seriously. </li></ul><ul><li>Positives- </li></ul><ul><li>By getting your opinion out there, you have the chance to actually spark some ones ideas to help. If people show enough initiative and compassion, it could make people in office realize that this is a situation that has been crying for attention. </li></ul>
  10. 10. The Best solution <ul><li>The best solution is to raise awareness of these devastating abuses going on in China. By raising awareness, people will begin to take the course of action needed to help the suffering of the China’s people. </li></ul>
  11. 11. What I’ve Done <ul><li>I have donated money to China Aid- an organization devoted to assisting China financially in many areas. I have chosen to donate my money to the Legal Aid division of this organization, because I think that the police refusal to get prisoners Legal representation, needs attention. </li></ul>
