  3. 3. By definition Creative writing Is writing that expresses ideas and thoughts in an imaginative way
  4. 4. Breaking from the bounds of academic, technical or information sharing type of writing, creative writing is- simply put... writing art.
  5. 5. You may be asking.. WHY WRITE? well...
  6. 6. Immortality The ability to live forever; to have legendary status Is there anything you have in your mind or in your life’s story that you want to always remember or to pass along to others? This isn’t a fantastic idea; isn’t this the same mindset behind keepsakes? Do you have keepsakes, or collections? Do you know anyone who does? Do you think keeping words may be important to some people? How would someone do that?
  7. 7. BettermentThe act or process of improving something Do you believe your ideas can positively impact others around you? Why or why not? Can you think of a thought or idea of yours are worth sharing, with the end goal of helping others? Is helping others a motivator for you?
  8. 8. Self ExpressionThe expression of one’s individuality Why is self expression powerful? Useful? Necessary?
  9. 9. Self AwarenessTo understand oneself on a deeper level of body or mind; not influenced by others Have you ever wondered something; and you are stuck for an answer until you muse out loud? Magic transcends when a spoken word or concept is heard. Quite often, a deeper understanding or insight is then understood. It is the same with writing. By writing our thought down we may then gain a deeper understanding of our thoughts and opinions.

  11. 11. Did you know... Stephen King writes 2000 words a day? Do you think one becomes a better writer by writing?
  12. 12. Writers Read Do you think we can learn what good writing is by reading? Do you think you can find your favorite style of writing, by reading a variety of writing styles? Did you know… In Elon Musk’s biography we are told that as a teen, he often read up to 10 hours a day.
  13. 13. Writers Practice How does one get proficient at a foreign language? How does one excel at a sport? How does one become an aficionado at a musical instrument? You got it! Practice.
  14. 14. In Conclusion Think of writing as an art form, where the ideas and thoughts within us are transferred onto paper or onto an electrical device to be read, and understood by others.
  15. 15. Review What, if any, was new information or concepts for you in the presentation? What, if anything, inspired you, and in what ways? What, if anything, left you flat. In what ways? Is writing a skill you want to develop? Why or why not? How many books or articles do you read in a week, a Month?
  16. 16. Challenges for today *Choose a writing journal. *Choose the number of words you will write. *Choose the number of books or articles you will read. *Choose to commit to bring your thoughts and ideas about your reading or writing to the group tomorrow.
  17. 17. Class Format For the week of camp we will meet here and dive into writing together. Today was an overview. Information gathered and shared among this group. Tomorrow when we come together, we will open up with the writing challenge sharing time. Followed by a bit of discussion-input and excellence based feedback from the group. There will be a bit of diving into more insight in the craft of writing with a new power point presentation. We will finish up with another, writing challenge.
